Nestled on a hilltop, with spectacular views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano, Pie in the Sky is truly a little piece of paradise. Experience an unforgettable holiday in one of Costa Rica’s premier travel destinations. Accommodation: Pie in the Sky is a unique and luxurious accommodation. There are 3 separated houses that share the common areas like Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi and BBQ Deck, and it offers you the flexibility to rent each house individually or the entire complex as one. This listing is ONLY for PIE IN THE SKY 2 - Pie in the Sky 2 is the perfect place for a small family or group of friends. Each one of the 2 bedrooms have one comfortable queen size bed, A/C and private bathroom. Also a comfortable futon on the living room that opens to a double bed and sleeps 2 extra persons. - The fully functional kitchen with granite counter tops is equipped with everything you need to prepare energizing breakfasts or delicious dinners. - The views are simply spectacular, either if you are resting in the house, cooking steaks in the BBQ deck or swimming in spring fed pool & jacuzzi you have panoramic views of the Arenal lake and the volcano. - THINGS TO DO: There are lots of tours to keep you entertained for days, Volcano hikes, Zip Lines, Hanging Bridges, ATV tours, Kayak and Paddle-board tours, Rainforest and Waterfall hikes, Horseback riding, Hot Springs, Wildlife watching tours and more. All of these are less than half an hour away from the house. Our concierge is always available at our new and modern Welcome Center to help you book tours, find the best restaurants, book a massage and get the most out of your time in the area. -LOCATION: El Castillo is approx. 3 hours (150km) from both international airports, either in the capital of San Jose, or on the northern pacific coast in Liberia. La Fortuna, which is a small city that offers amenities such as grocery, banking, post office, restaurants, hot springs, excursions and much more, is only 30 minutes away. - GETTING AROUND: You will want your own Rental Car. While there are a few things to see and a couple of restaurants within walking distance of the house, there are many activities that require a 10 to 45 minute drive. You will not be happy waiting for a cab to arrive either coming or going. *ROAD UPDATE: Some reviews mention the necessity of a 4x4 car to access the property, the drive up to the house was steep, rocky and sometimes slippery, but after Sep. 5th of 2022 it's completely paved, so any type of car will be able to make it up and down the hill without problems.

Our communication with Augustin and team in advance of our visit were great and their advice and attention throughout our stay were amazing. The photos in the listing don’t do justice to this stunning house and grounds. It is a bit off the beaten path but convenient to many activities. We enjoyed tours of the volcano, La Fortuna waterfall, and the hanging bridges. Add to that a half day of fishing on Lake Arenal, a coffee and chocolate tour and in-house massages! We highly recommend this property!

I saw this Vrbo while planning a trip for my family ( 4 kids ages 14-22) and it was the reason I chose Costa Rica. It does not disappoint. You share the hot tub, pool and eagles nest with two other homes- but we never saw anyone else while we were there. There’s a great pizza place nearby- Howlers. We could share a couple of pizzas. From this home we did the la fortuna waterfall and Rio Celeste waterfall and did some kayaking on arenal lake ( super close by). We liked all of it. We also like el patio restaurant

We had the most incredible time here at Pie in the Sky II. The view seriously could NOT have been more spectacular. The house is lovely and the open-air style made us really feel immersed in the Costa Rican lifestyle. The grounds were immaculately manicured, and the pool and hot tub were cleaned daily. We saw so many birds just from our doorstep, as well as enjoyed the sounds of monkeys every sunrise and sunset. The location is quite close to so many activities and natural attractions. Communication with the property managers was great, and everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. The other two villas on the property were both occupied while we were there, but we never felt crowded or had problems with sharing the communal spaces.
Our only complaint is one that has been mentioned on several other reviews: the beds really are incredibly uncomfortable. They are very loud with every little movement, but the major issue is the mattresses are extremely thin and VERY hard. My older parents love a firm bed, and my husband and I definitely prefer softer ones, but none of us really slept well the entire stay. Newer, thicker mattresses would be a quick fix to remedy the one consistent negative review from guests. Everything else about the home was amazing enough though for us to still highly recommend this location.

Amazing view with meticulous grounds. Wonderful hot tub and lovely seating areas outside. Only downside are the uncomfortable beds and lack of bedside table lamps. Small complaints for wonderful stay!

Can't say enough about the incredible views. Loved everything about this quiet location. We enjoyed the local food, activities, and scenery. The only complaint i have is that the bed was uncomfortable. I would go back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pie In The Sky with morning beverages on the porch overlooking the lake and mountains. The house was well equipped and comfortable including the beds. A massage therapist came right to the house and was top notch. One guest had a hot stone massage and the other lymphatic drainage with a Healiing Hands massage. They both said they were the best massages they had ever had. She was the property manager's Augustin's wife, Maria. We enjoyed an early dinner and views of the lake an Volcano at Fusion Restaurant just down the street. The tower was wonderful to view birds in the early mornings and evenings. Augustin was very positive and helpful at the El Castillo Welcome Center. Pure Vida!

This property was just perfect for our family. The home was well equipped and clean. The property manager was attentive and helpful. The grounds, pool, hot tub and observation deck were wonderful and beautifully maintained for our family to relax and take in the incredible view. The view of the volcano was spectacular. We ventured to La Fortuna a couple times but it wasn’t necessary, El Castillo had all of the things we needed (zip lining, ATVs, hikes, etc) just within a 10ish minute drive. We loved everything about this property and our stay. P.S. if you stay here be sure to go to El Patio and try the Burria Tacos. Yum!

Agustin, was really good
He helped us with finding and booking some really cool tours. Filled us in on the restaurants and local sites. I would highly recommend pie in the sky. It’s a beautiful location with a beautiful view.

We saw more colorful birds just sitting outside drinking our morning coffee everyday than we saw when we were in the national park. It was a beautiful place to be and walk and there was a great little cafe that we could just walk to From the villa.

Amazing view and serenity….

We really enjoyed our stay in #2. It is an amazing view. Property is in El Castillo. It is probably 25 minutes from La Fortuna, but there are lots of activities you can do within 10-15 minutes there. I stayed with my wife and 15 & 12-yr-old daughters. We kayaked on the lake, zip lined at Sky Trek, did the hanging bridges at Mistico and went to the Butterfly Conservatory. All of these are on the El Castillo side of town. We also tried several local restaurants and were always pleasantly surprised with the food, even if the restaurant wasn't much to look at. We really enjoyed the two different Fusion restaurants and the little Mama's restaurant for breakfast next to the welcome center where you check in. You do need a 4x4 for the driveway up to the house. I was a little worried about this at first, but had no problem renting a Nissan X-Trail from the Avis at the San Jose Airport. We would certainly stay again. The property is beautiful. You do share the pool and hot tub with guest from the two other cabins/homes, but that wasn't an issue.

Better than expected
I don’t often get to say that something is better than I expected it to be but this was. I loved the view, the birds that I saw were amazing (bring your binoculars) and the outdoor facilities were great. The house itself was lovely and the property manager went above and beyond. The town was adorable and had some nice local dining options. The Spanish spoken in town is a little more limited than la fortuna so learn a little before you come and it will go a long way. I didn’t feel like to drive to anything I did was too far.

Awesome house
My family of 5 stayed at pie in the sky 2. The house was perfect for us. The views were absolutely amazing looking over lake arenal and the volcano. Sitting in the hot tub listening to howler monkeys was one of our favorites. House was clean and the grounds were gorgeous. We would definitely go back.

Ludicrously awesome. Looking over the perfect property at the lake and the volcano, it looked more like a fantasy painting than reality. Architectural and landscaping details are amazing. I imagine this is how billionaires live.

Didn't want to leave!
Location was perfect and views of Lake Arenal & the volcano are incredible! For me, an American country girl who doesn't like or live in the city, this was perfect. Far enough away from the hustle of LA Fortuna (just a 30 minute drive), but close enough to all the attractions, mini marts, and restaurants (some less than 5 minutes by foot or car). Augustin was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Lilander's horse tour & La Mesa de Mama a local soda (cafe).
We loved it so much, we canceled our plans in Tamarindo and returned here for an extra few days! Thank you!

Amazing views and convenient location
We (2 couples) stayed for 4 nights at pie 2 and it was the perfect location to do all of our excursions. We did have a car (4 wheel drive) and everything was 30min or less- la fortuna, zip-lining, hanging bridges, etc.
the property is meticulously managed and the grounds are beautiful. Waking up and having coffee with that view or coming back to use the pool and hot tub after a day of exploring was perfect! Would definitely recommend. all of the reviews seem accurate in my opinion.

A little slice of Heaven!
Wow! What an experience staying at Pie in the Sky (2 bedroom house). The views of the volcano and Lake Arenal are breathtaking, truly breathtaking! The gardens are immaculate, the pool and hot tub areas are stunning, and the house itself was amazing! We are a family of 5 so my daughter stayed on the futon in the living room but we made that work.
The sunrise over Chato was beautiful and we heard several troupes of Howler monkeys a few times during our stay. The evening hot tubs were a special treat, especially after the adventures we did during the day. There was even an issue with the hot tub one day and the property team jumped on it (driving over 3 hours to find a special part!!) and had it working again by that evening! Awesome job guys!

Gem of a place

Amazing!
This place is amazing! The pictures don’t do it justice. We are a family of 5 and all of us loved this place and didn’t want to leave. In fact, we are already talking to our friends about planning a trip back with a big group and renting out the whole place. It is also close to many activities so being a little away from town is not a problem.

Beautiful vistas from a lovely cabin
Wow- the views from this place are absolutely spectacular. We got up each morning to watch sunrise and were blessed with a view cloudless mornings. The layout of the house is not ideal for 2 groups. The living room is small without much room for lounging. We spent most of our time out and about exploring the area so it wasn't too big of an issue. We stayed there 5 nights and never got used to the steep driveway! Agustin did a great job managing the property, got us set up with a great tour, and responded to our questions and needs quickly.

Breathtaking and luxurious
We have traveled all over the world, and have never had the breathtaking views that we experienced here! The landscaping, and property was beautifully manicured. The house was so nice, and clean. Agustin was available in a moments notice to help us, and even helped us plan our trip. The only reason I didn't give all 5 stars was because the kitchen was a little difficult to use for cooking meals. It has plenty of pots and pans, silverware, and dishes, but the other necessities for cooking ar lacking. For instance, we didn't have a wine opener. No worries, though, because there are plenty of terrific places to eat in El Castillo. Don't miss howlers, La ventanita, and Fusion for great meals! Over all, this was one of the most beautiful places that we've stayed to date! Hope we can come back again!

Amazing views!
Our family of 4 enjoyed our stay at Pie in the Sky 2. The house is about 30 minutes from La Fortuna but we like being away from town in the quiet. The views of the lake and volcano are so pretty. We had rain several days but still enjoyed the scenery. We used the hot tub several times and sat in the Eagles Nest. There is a lot to do around the area, too. The drive up to the house is very steep but we did not have any issues in our small sedan. Thanks for sharing this amazing house!

Epic Views at Pie in the Sky 2
We loved our time at Pie 2. The views are absolutely stunning and the entire property is amazing. We woke each morning to only the sounds of birds and howler monkies. No other noise, none. The weather was wonderfully cool with a few brief rain showers. The property itself is a masterpiece with three rental units of various sizes which share a common jacuzzi, a beautiful pool, a grill with a deck for dining and another, higher observation deck for even more magnificent views. It was very handy having an on-site laundry, and the property was meticulously maintained throughout our visit. The Wifi/Internet was remarkably reliable given the somewhat remote location, and the small town of El Castillo is just a few minutes away with a market that provided everything that we needed and a few small restaurants. We cooked most of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen in Pie 2, It has a huge refrigerator/freezer and a propane stove/oven. Agustin (the property manager) was available daily for any questions, and we stopped at his office at the bottom of the hill daily to fill our ice chest before heading out for more adventures. Did I mention the views? Breathtaking. We will definitely return to Pie in the Sky when we are in this area again.

Wonderful Place
My wife and two daughters had a wonderful and peaceful stay at Pie in the sky. Agustin was very helpful and knowledgeable of the local area and offered things to see and do. The Howler Bar right below the was handy for a quick bite and a cold beverage. as said before the road is quite steep but paved and you might like a all wheel drive. I would definitely stay there again and will stay for a longer time to take in all there is to see.

Majestic!
The view from this property cannot be captured in photographs. The location is very convenient to restaurants and endless activities surrounding Arenal. The properties are meticulously maintained and very well appointed. The beds are less than comfy (preferred the futon), but everything else was so magical its hard to cite anything negative, still five stars for us. We extended our stay a couple extra days and still didn't want to leave. We'll never forget our trip to this place - thank you to Augustine for all the helpful information.

FANTÁSTICO!
Pie in the Sky 2 was a seldom experienced vacation rental. The views, home, and surroundings were a uniquely stunning, beautiful experience. The swimming pool, hot tub, and eagles nest were wonderful to come back to after a full day of activities. Augustin did a great job of settting us up with different activities we were interested in during our stay. We would definitely come back, but next time for a longer stay. PURA VIDA!!

The Room with a View.
Stayed last week in Pie in the Sky 2. Its a quaint little house in El Castillo. It sits above the lake on a hilltop. The views of the lake and volcano are first rate. The kitchen is a little rustic but fun to cook in. The staff for Majestic Properties are fantastic. You'll probably want a 4WD for the driveway although not absolutely necessary its pretty steep (which we saw alot in CR while we were there). I loved the custom woodworking in the house from doors to cabinets and furniture. It's not the stuff I'm used to seeing that's for sure. The view from the hot tub at sunset is almost surreal. the "Eagles Nest" also has an amazing view at sunset. I'm giving 4 stars just because the kitchen might be better stocked, we cooked a lot. there was only one spatula. The nonstick pans were kind of used up (which seems to be the case in most rentals) although I must say they also had stainless steel pans that were really great, just harder to cook in when your not used to them. would I stay there again? Absolutely. I look forward to the next trip.

A Slice of Heaven!
The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this property! The views are simply amazing! Pie in the Sky 2 was very nice and accommodated 2 couples nicely. All of the recommendations suggested by Agustine were perfect. Where else can you wake up to the sounds of Howler Monkeys and a variety of birds? The pool and hot tub were nice. Our only regret is not staying here longer.
