In Crete most villa are a drive away from a beach resort. This was less than a mile from Almyrida beach, a small uncrowded fishing village turned low-rise holiday resort. Has over 15 restaurants to choose from. Strenuous walk up the hill to get back though and roads not too busy (there's no room for pavements in Crete due to it being so hilly. . The pool is lovely it's fresh water so no chemicals and is good for swimming as has a steep gradient to the deep end which must be over 7 feet deep. Young children will need supervision. The local village is a 3 minute walk and has a lovely cobbled street/square with a few taverna and at one there is a free rounds of drinks for people staying at Villa Plaka and the food is inexpensive and good. Elpis - very good food, prices, and hospitality - was our favourate taverna. There are two mini-markets and to be honest they are no more expensive than big supermarkets. Villa is really spacious and cool in the heat. Nice feel like a little castle and has been done to a high standard. The kitchen has over and above the amount of equipment you need or would expect. There are 2 terraces off the upstairs bedrooms and from one a nice view of white mountains and Almyrida bay. We hired a car and had a rule we would not drive more than an hour on a day out and went to: Georgiopoulis - beach resort good for shopping and recommend the curved beach over the bridge which is quiet and the sea is calm for swimming. Stavros Beach - a lagoon with a beach, water like a swimming pool and warm, lots of fish. Imbros Gorge - easy to get to/leave unlike Samira. No-one there. Beautiful adventure. Lord of the Rings. Kouras Lake - only fresh water lake in Crete - scenic and great for swimming but take sandals/aqua shoes. We found a cove with pebble beach 40mins walk away but 8 mins drive direction west - clear water like a swimming pool, aqua shoes recommended. Rethimno City - Venetian harbour/old town.

Nothing comes to mind but third time in Crete so know what to expect. Cretian hospitality is hard to beat.

La literie! Très inconfortable, notamment dans la chambre du bas. Salles de bain vieillotes, pas d’eau chaude pendant 3 jours. Cour et piscine agréable mais très encaissée (pas d’air). Beaucoup d’insectes / cafards dans la maison…

The house, pool and location were fantastic. A very private property, quiet and well appointed. The proximity to Almirida beach, the local supermarket and taverns in Plaka made for an easy stay. The views from the balconies were lovely. Air conditioning was essential as it was hot but the house was very comfortable.

The pool surround could do with a tidy up and some of the outdoor furniture is a little tired. A sun parasol would be a good addition.
