Short family holiday in a beautiful old property.

Really pretty cottage with good size rooms and excellent outside space. Easy walk (up short but very steep hill) to bus stop for Newport for pubs and restaurants. Parking for 3 cars. Cottage was clean and tidy and well equipped, although we didn’t do any cooking during our stay. Having 3 bathrooms was also a big plus.

Quite a lot of single internal steps between rooms which was a bit of a hazard for the older members of the group.

Looks nice in the photos but does not live up the image.

The location was the best bit. The age of the property gave it charm. The main bedroom and Jack/Jill bathroom were lovely. The back entrance with space to dry and clean a dog were really useful, as was the separate room for the washing machine/tumble dryer. Not having a sink in that room was a missed trick.

Everything else. The kitchen was filthy, not well equipped, uncomfortable. There was mismatching china and no one set o glasses sufficient for the 7 or 8 guests the house could hold. There were multiple pans (more than you need) but nothing clean or of quality. There were obvious food splashes on the wall next to the halogen hob. There was no lighting over the halogen hob which you needed to rely on cooking with and there were only two rings, it was in the corner and no work space around it. It was a juggling act. How would you cook for 7-8 people on two halogen rings and a not so hot Aga? The lounge was OK, but the carpet was stained, as was the furniture. Kitchen and lounge drawers were just full of clutter. I know that this is an old property but the windows could be draughty in cold weather, even with the flimsy magnetically attached perspex panels. The childrens' play room, described in the welcome book at the boot room was dirty, bare floorboards with a token rug. I would not let young children play in there. The outside furniture cushions were dumped in the space under the stairs, which was also filthy. The downstairs bedroom smelled musty. The garden was large but not secure. The grass had not been cut for a month by the looks of it and the flower beds overgrown. There were vermin under the rotten shed which became a pre-occupation for my dog. There was a family's worth of shoes taking up the shoe rack. The house does not feel well managed or organised.

The location was beautiful and the rooms were neat and clean.

The kitchen was in a very bad state, the oven, the kettle nothing was clean. The kitchen should be looked into properly before the bookings.
