Bunga Raya Island Resort & Spa

We had a wonderful time here. We stayed for 3 nights in a superior chalet. As it was a basic chalet it was actually the best chalet we have stayed in, spatious, 2 air con units which kept us lovely and cool. Big bathroom and rain shower. The bed was huge and really comfortable. They also provide free insect repellent in the rooms and by the pool which we didn't find anywhere else on our trip. Wifi in the room and TV. There are steps up to our chalet which we found okay but people with mobility issues could just get the complimentary electric buggy to and from the rooms. The staff here are magnificent, so kind and caring and very attentive. We didn't opt for the all inclusive option as we don't drink so it wouldn't have been beneficial for us. Food was great, especially the burger on the lunch menu and we loved the refresher drinks menu. Happy hour is 4pm-7pm. We snorkelled everyday and used the kayaks also. All watersports are free to use which is the reason we chose this resort over gaya island resort and we thought the beach was nicer also. We saw some great fish around the Jetty, sting rays and a black tip shark. No jellyfish were seen which was great. We didn't use the gym but we went in to get the pickleball equipment and it was good, all the equipment you'd need, shower etc... We played pickleball in the rain and it was fabulous. Overall the staff here make the experience one of a kind. We would happily return and already miss being there!

A wonderful resort for our honeymoon, and one we’d highly recommend particularly the plunge pool villa that overlooks and has private access to the beach. The jetty was a particular highlight — very well lit, and every night we would walk there looking at the marine life; it was like having our own private aquarium. Some caveats. Don’t expect parties, activities and shows — this is a great resort to unwind and recharge, particularly if you love nature (exactly what we needed for the tail end of a mammoth 3 weeks). The jungle hikes and snorkelling trips are definitely worth doing; the snorkelling around the resort is good but you do have to swim out for the best coral. We considered private boats to KK but didn’t feel the need when you can party with monkeys, monitors, hornbills and wild boar at your doorstep. There are only 2 restaurants on site which can feel a bit limiting, but the food is varied and excellent so we didn’t mind. The staff were warm and attentive throughout without ever being intrusive — a tough balance to strike. And the wine list from their amazing cellar is simply one of the best we’ve ever seen — serious depth in Australian wines alongside some genuine heavy hitters: First Growths, Grange, Sassicaia. Exceptional.

The whole resort was simply dreamy. The 2 km-long beach is the most beautiful we’ve seen in Borneo so far, with crystal-clear water and an abundance of marine life — including baby reef sharks and even a turtle. It’s the perfect place to unwind after trekking through Borneo’s jungle. Both restaurants on the property are excellent, offering a wide variety of seafood. The sambal seabass is especially worth recommending. The staff were consistently warm and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions we had. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as complimentary water bottles and a lovely batik sarong. The villa itself was very spacious, with a large and extremely comfortable bed. Although we didn’t have a direct sea view, we could still hear the soothing sound of the ocean. Our only point of concern relates to the water buffaloes. We understand that they help with beach cleaning, and we did see them walking along the shore, even with a young calf. However, we also noticed that they were kept overnight on the far left side of the beach, tethered by a rope attached to their noses, which was quite distressing to witness. Aside from this, everything about our stay was truly exceptional.

An unforgettable island paradise! 🌴🐠 Bungaraya Island Resort is truly a special place. The coral reef and marine life are absolutely spectacular — the underwater world is incredibly rich and vibrant, with beautiful corals, colourful tropical fish, and an amazing variety of marine life right on the doorstep. For anyone who loves snorkelling or diving, this is a fantastic destination. The beaches are gorgeous, with crystal-clear turquoise water, soft sand, and the perfect tropical-island atmosphere. The resort’s location is simply stunning, surrounded by natural beauty and offering that wonderful feeling of being completely away from it all. What really made our stay even more enjoyable was the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely keen to make our experience special. The level of hospitality really added to the charm of the resort. And the food was excellent, with plenty of delicious options and beautifully prepared meals. Enjoying great food while surrounded by such incredible scenery was a real highlight. Overall, Bungaraya Island Resort is a true tropical gem. Beautiful beaches, exceptional coral reefs and marine life, wonderful hospitality, delicious food, and an unbeatable island location — everything comes together to make it a place we would happily return to. Highly recommended!
