The Copper Kettle

A very interesting period property built around 1610 with winding stairs and exposed beams. The lady of the house was very amenable and has been running the place for around 50years.

This property receives variable reviews across various platforms, great reviews and poor reviews alike seem a little unrealistic and the bad ones often ill founded. It is a old and tired property that reuqires a lot of work, the room was small but comfortable. There was a pervading smell of damp (not cooking oil as noted on other platforms) just like home!! wall paper and bathroom had clearly suffered in past. Good breakfast, clean room, friendly accommodating host. When you make a booking at a property which is 25-50% cheaper than any other in the immediate area and includes breakfast what are you expecting? We went in on a budget with low expectations but it was not as bad a we had thought it might be and we had a separate private bathroom having anticipated sharing. Is it the Ritz? No. Would we stay again, undoubtedly, yes.

Had a light large room with en suite, if you want fancy then this is not for you, the couple running it are very easy to talk to and very pleasant and helpful, breakfast was good, right in the centre of town.

Set in a 1300s terraced cottage the owners provided their own parking spot for us around the back of property that was a little tricky to find but welcome because, the streets through town are narrow with restricted parking double yellow each side. The atmosphere was nostalgic and a bit quirky.. we stayed one night in a cosy bedroom with shower. Comfortable bed. Included a decent cooked breakfast in the downstairs dinning area on ground floor.
