La Maison Aux Bonsaïs

We stayed for four nights. The refrigerator was stocked with food and drinks — the drinks were especially welcome during the consecutive hot days. Breakfast was a self-serve affair from the fridge, enjoyed with freshly baked croissants delivered each morning. It gave us a lovely taste of village life, however brief. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, so preparing your own dinner with local ingredients is entirely possible — though you may need a car, as the village has just one small supermarket. Fresh towels in abundance, an incredibly comfortable bed (and I’m not exaggerating — I slept better here than at any hotel I’ve ever stayed in), and throughout the space, a thoughtful collection of furnishings gathered by the owner Luc on his travels around the world, alongside the bonsai trees he tends with great care. The amenities were more than generous. The space feels modern and functional, yet carries the history of the village within its walls. Luc himself is a wonderful conversationalist — make sure to set aside time to share a glass of wine with him during your stay.

We had a wonderful visit. An absolutely lovely apartment, an amazing location, and incredibly gracious hosts.

Excellent place to stay. We had a 'self-catering' apartment at La Maison aux Bonsais. The sign on the door says 'Guest House'. The owner Luc (and his son Michael) were very welcoming. When we arrived the fridge and pantry were well provided, basically giving us breakfast for our five day stay (with a short walk to the nearby boulangerie). The house is within a walled ancient village. There is parking available for guests and residents of the village. The owner's son met us at the security gate to the village and guided us to the house. Streets are very narrow so a small car is better. All was good with our stay here.

From the minute we were greeted at the gate and escorted to a parking spot…to the personal introduction to the restaurants where we ate…to the impromptu 5 hr lunch with some fantastic people….to the eclectically appointed yet perfectly outfitted apartment (loved the tub!) and amazingly victualed kitchen….what more is there to be said but Merci Michael / Luc and abientot….because why would we not come back!!!
