Need to replace the dirty coffee maker without water available with a Keurig machine. Also, Kleenex tissues in the room would be nice. Also, in the original hotels dot come listing there was no indication the actual hotel was closed. Kind of a bait and switch.

We stayed in the southern house. The room was clean and comfortable. The location is perfect and convenient to everything in town.
4.0
It was small, but clean. Close to everything.

The Chalfont definitely has old world charm! Clean rooms, comfy beds, huge porch. Really enjoyed our stay!

We really enjoyed our stay, truly a vintage hotel full of authentic charm.

Great environment with limited food and beverage service during off-season.

Exceptional Victorian charm.

The Hotel has the Southern Charm that they advertise. I loved the location - easy walk to shopping, restaurants and the beach.
It is a little noisy in the evening if there are large groups as guests. A wedding party was there while I stayed. They were noisy but quieted down well before midnight. Not a big issue.

I loved the quaintness of the hotel!

A cool place to stay if you are looking for the very old Victorian Vibe. The best part was the beds were comfortable. My biggest complaint was no mini refrigerator in rooms & no television in the rooms. Also, the grounds & large porch area was not kept up as far as trash & wet table cloths due to the storm.

I loved the decor and the feel of the place. It was clean and neat. Having the bar and bands downstairs was great! I did not like the noisy, rattling windows and couldn’t sleep
Because they were so loud.

this is a unique property, i really enjoyed my stay.

Disappointing to say the least. My husband has a bad ankle and trouble with stairs. I called prior to our stay requesting a first floor room. We were told they were taken by a group but were on their list for a cancelation. We arrived and were put on the 3rd floor. Even the 2nd floor would have been better but this put a HUGE damper on our stay. The room was supposedly cleaned and beds were made but the bathroom was untouched. We wont be coming back.

Previous reviews lacked info that I felt needed to be noted. The hotel fits the area as quaint but NOT friendly. For the price I would have stayed in a newer motel down the street that provided the amenities lacking in this hotel
NOT PROVIDED
PARKING (only local street parking you have to find) due to wedding reception closest was 6 blocks away
NO ELEVATOR
AIR CONDITIONING we had a window unit that was covered by the curtains not easy to fold up to uncover vents
3 PRONG OUTLETS Outlets are only 2 prong except for 2 next to the sink in the room that was convenient to use anywhere else in the room Need extension cord if you want to use on the bed
NO TV in the room. I realize they encourage relaxation but the next item will prove they don't care so provide TV and I'll decide
LIVE BAND for a wedding reception immediately below our room had the walls and furniture vibrating for 3 hours at night Talked to the front desk "we are a wedding venue as well as a hotel you just have to deal with it" no apology
ADD'L NOISE The rooms have swinging door then a regular door. Very nice guests open and slam the outer swinging door at all hours as they walk down the halls
NO FOOD/RESTAURANT.
Would never recommend and I would check all of the airbnb's around this hotel as the parking and noise would be terrible. As we walked to our car we noticed other motels that provide parking and other amenities that were actually cheaper when we researched.

Very clean room in a beautiful, historic property with lots of small gathering spaces inside and beautiful verandas to sit on. 2 short blocks to the beach and daily pass for free beach chairs and umbrella. A/C was strong and cold in the bedroom, fantastic after a hot day at the beach. Lovely restaurant with indoor dining room and outside dining on the veranda. Breakfast (not free, but not crazy expensive) was outstanding. Short walk to downtown Cape May. I'd definitely stay there again!

This trip was booked a few weeks out when decided to join my husband's family in Cape May. The Chalfonte had one of the few available rooms left in town, so we booked it. My husband grew up in Cape May and had fond memories of their front porch. Let me say the porch/bar is lovely. BUT, that is were it stops. We have stayed in a number of Victorian homes in Cape May that have been turned into hotels, we know they tend to be smaller & have older décor. Our room at the Chalfonte was in the attic. The room was so small that you could barely open a suitcase, and my husband could not stand fully upright in the tiny bathroom. Definitely not the room shown in the listing. Size aside, the room was not particularly clean. There cob webs, peeling paint, drips on the wall and a dirty shower curtain. The sheets may have been new because they felt starched and scratchy. I spoke with the front desk and with a bit of annoyance, they said they would change the sheets. We had booked the room for 4 nights, and told them that the room would not work for another 3. They said there was nothing they could do, they only had 1 other room available, and "it was not better". So, despite having already paid $1200 to the Chalfonte, we went and rented a room elsewhere. It is not another $1100 we had to spend, but did not see another way to salvage the vacation and enjoy time with our family.

We appreciated the history and authenticity.
The staff and service was above average.
Our room was very musty.
Something they can remedy if the want to.

This is a historic and well preserved Hotel. The first floor and large porch/veranda is inviting and comfortable. A perfect place to unwind. There is a full bar area and the kitchen serves meals on the porch with live music. A wonderful place to stay. The room was comfortable and clean.

Cute little Victorian hotel close to beach, but no elevators so it was a long way to our room. Otherwise, very cute and close to beach.

Staying at the Chalfonte definitely provides that old world charm one looks for when staying at cape may. The historic building has so much character and beauty. The location is a short walk from downtown and the beach. We loved the dining experience, good food conveniently steps away from our room, in a charming and low key environment. Those wrap around porches were just what you hoped for.

Cute hotel a bit old but lovely

Lovely old Victorian hotel! Spotless, convenient, very friendly staff! One drawback which they neglected to advertise, was that they did not serve breakfast in their restaurant, on Mondays and Tuesdays.. we were there from Sunday to Wednesday, so that was unfortunate for us. Would definitely stay there again!

Enjoyed the stay at the hotel. Loved the porch on 1st and 2nd floor and the live music downstairs. Centrally located to the beach. Would definitely stay here again.

Not sure this hotel is worth it. I emailed the hotel with a complaint and received nothing back.
I am extremely disappointed with my stay. The room was ok. However, housekeeping never cleaned the bathroom during our stay or provide fresh towels even when we left them piled. On top of this, at checkout a front young women at the front desk (bun and headband) gave me an attitude because I inquired about a $20 charge on the room from the bar. No one from my room went to the bar. We weren’t even on the premises when the room was charged. I asked her for a receipt after she dismissed me and said “I’ll look into it”. I asked if they checked keys too before charging a room and she rudely replied “I wasn’t charging you anyways” in an even ruder tone.
I did not feel welcome by this front desk attendant and other guests saw this interaction and also seemed uneasy about this. I am very disappointed that a stay at a sought out historic hotel ended on such bad terms. I truly hope this attendants behavior is not a reoccurrence or one defined by the demographics of who she is speaking to.

Just a great place to stay. Nice quaint room, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and good food and drinks. Located in beautiful historic Cape May. Close to everything!! We enjoyed our stay and plan on going back.

Room was really small and found some cobwebs in the corners. Everything else clean though. Ok for what it was. No parking on-site which stunk. Probably would only stay here again in a pinch.

The location was even better than we expected. Three blocks off the beach made for a better night sleep, quieter neighborhood, and even had live music on the lawn! Everyone was so friendly and the bar had such a positive vibe with character.

This place was very old but well maintained. The bad this is everything squeaks. And you can hear every single noise. Who ever was upstairs really has no consideration for the peopl staying underneath them. You can hear them at all hours of the night. We told the fro t rest amd the apologized. It wasn’t there fault. All in all I would not stay here again. I rather pay extra and stay at Congress Hall a few blocks away.

Beautiful Building with Original Details. A Gem of a building in Cape May But
Our room #28 is in dire need of an upgrade . Walls were in poor condition and overall accomodations were acceptable but not great . Rate of $275 seems excessive for the overall condition of the room . I suggest you review the room details before booking ..

Chalfonte is in an amazing location where you can walk to the beach, shopping, restaurants, and just enjoy Cape May. The property is full of nooks and crannies where you can sit and relax and enjoy the day.
