Via Inn Shinagawa Oimachi

Clean towels daily (maybe too often had to put a sign up don’t need anymore towels), very comfortable bed and bedding, very close to Oimachi station 200m away maybe. A 7/11 at basement of hotel was so handy for water and snacks, boiled eggs or bath salts. Good breakfast included with really lovely friendly staff. Free amenities at basement.

No free water provided at all. Disliked the self check in process. 3 staff doing nothing behind admin counter but they make you enter all your name and details, DOB, address etc, scan your passport, pay an extra tax fee, all by yourself because I guess that’s technology to use a machine and less work for their staff. A management issue really as I’m sure staff just doing what they’ve been told to do. Also if you arrive before 3pm check in time (I arrived 2:40pm), they’re super strict with this rule regardless if rooms are clean and ready they’ll still make you wait in the foyer with a laminated number and only once it reaches 3pm will they allow you to all check yourself in at the machines in the order you arrived, I was number 4 (3 machines) so just had to wait til one of the others finished - not too long), but the strictness of this policy is a bit off putting as the rooms are already clean & we’re still made to wait with our bags and no wifi use yet, and it’s nice to go to a hotel arrive say 20 minutes early like I did and just go straight up to your room after the staff have checked you in. Again a management decision not a staff politeness issue. Also with check in, they should have all those details already, so why do we have to waste time typing them all in again, such a waste of our time, esp if you’re tired after travelling there. Seems inefficient. Hated the small plastic bathroom shell inserted into the room, small narrow tub, hard to get into for a bigger westerner. Small door frame to bathroom had to go in sideways to not scratch my skin. Small room overall, didn’t have anywhere to place my 72cm bag so had to improvise by putting the chair on top of the bench and put my bag under the table area, to open, only space big enough in the room. Room Designed to only fit carry on luggage size trolley bag.

They have a range of items like coffee, tea, toiletries, etc that you can select from in the lobby. It was easy to reach for either Narita or Haneda Airport. I arrived at Narita and took the Skyliner to Ueno and then 13 stops to Oimachi. It took around 30min to Haneda the following morning with just one change at Shinagawa Station. Also, there is a 7 eleven directly below the hotel which was handy.

It was very convenient and near a lot of stores/restaurants. Good facilities available in the hotel, staff is nice.

Loved the location, really close to the train station and not in a crowded area. Delicious breakfast, clean and spacious room. Highlyl recommend!
