About this house rental
A beautiful double-fronted Georgian home situated in the traditional seaside town of Budleigh Salterton.
With its elegant interior, period features and position just moments away from the town's pretty pebble beach and high street, Poplar Cottage creates an idyllic retreat on Devon's east coast; equally suited to blissful family holidays and luxury stays. Recently renovated to an exceptional standard, the house which has been professionally styled, flows effortlessly between its two floors, offering guests light and airy downstairs living, and spacious bedrooms above. Combining old-world glamour with up-to-date chic, an original staircase, sash windows and ornate fireplaces juxtapose contemporary furnishings and tasteful accessories, all basking in the floods of natural daylight that stream in from virtually every angle.
The ground floor kitchen and open plan dining room have a touch of French farmhouse.
Please note that due to the warm weather the Aga is switched off during July and August. It will be switched back on in September (weather depending). The two-ring induction hob, combination microwave oven and BBQ are available for cooking.
We ask our guests for a £150 good housekeeping bond, which is pre-authorised against your card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved and then released afterwards if there is no claim. We will contact you nearer the time of your arrival to arrange this.

Our second stay at Poplar Cottage, and as before we enjoyed the well decorated and equipped house. The location is quiet and close the centre of the village and a couple of minutes walk to the (stony) beach.
It has an Aga, which we are used to, but it tends to make the kitchen quite hot compared to the rest of the house - open windows required at times to provide air circulation. Budleigh is a nice village with plenty of food shops nearby

This was the third time we have stayed in Poplar Cottage, we love the space, comfort and convenience of being just off the centre of Budleigh with a very short walk into the village and the beach. Well furnished with super comfortable beds, great bathrooms (the new shower in the main bedroom is superb), large sitting room with super comfy couches, and well equipped kitchen with an Aga (not as tricky to use once you get used to it).

A return visit to Poplar Cottage and another wonderful stay. Everything was as we remember it from 2 years ago when we visited to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary - we have visited Budleigh since we were first married and Poplar Cottage provides a wonderful and comfortable base from which to explore our old haunts, and even find new ones. Cant fault anything , we shall be back again.

Our family have had the most amazing break at Poplar cottage. We would probably rank this as the best UK cottage we’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in.
The cottage is truly exceptional and its heritage is fascinating. The furnishings are in abundance with such tasteful decor throughout. Every little detail has been thoughtfully considered from the luxury bedding, towels, plentiful seating including a cosy snug area and ample kitchen utensils. The sea provides a beautiful landscape and Budleigh is oozing with charm. Despite the mixed weather, this did not dampen our spirits with long nature walks along the Otter enjoying the beautiful birds and the breathtaking coastal views. We will definitely be back.
