A spacious, corner flat in the need of tlc in an anonomous block on the far southern end of Durres promenade.

Beautiful, comfortable and spacious corner slat with wonderful views right on the sea front. BUT……

IT WAS ON THE FIFTH FLOOR WITHOUT ANY LIFT AND A CHALLENGING STAIRCASE. This was very challenging for people of advancing years. It meant that we went out just once a day - for a meal in a great restaurant bellow and did not go down to the beach and sea as had been our intention. But the initial problem and challenge was that no “Beach Home” exists in Durres. There is a “Beach House”, about a mile from the flat - which is where our taxi took us Using GPS, the driver found the way close to the flat. But no one we spoke to - shopkeepers, hotel receptionists and bar staff - had any idea where this “Beach Home” had any idea where it was. It was only after a phone call with the owner’s agent, that we discovered that it was a in large six storey block without any signage at the far northern end of Durres very long pedestrianised promenade. Also, once in the flat, we found the lavatory seat was completely broken off its hinges. The door lock was extremely stiff and we had to ease it with cooking oil. Very other things were broken, such as the clothes airer and the whole place was much in need of some tlc. We notified the owner of these issues as soon as we arrived but this met with no remedial response. Also, the owner would accept payment only by cash. This was mentioned when booking 8 months previously but had been forgotten by me. The owner did not mention this in his subsequent missive. The owner’s agent required close on €1k when we arrived. We did not have this so had to withdraw the large sum from ATMs - a slightly daunting experience.
