SMALL ROOM FOR A SEA VIEW ROOM. THE COURTYARD ROOM HAD A BACK BAD VIEW BUT IT WAS MORE COMFORTABLE.

The breakfast, served in the rooftop dining room, was extensive and excellent. The staff there were fabulous. Our room was very nice with a super comfortable bed. I particularly enjoyed our little balcony facing the park. The hotel is in a great location, set back a little from the busy Promenade and near some very nice shops.

Although the bathroom was very nice and spacious, the glass shower panel leaked.

Anantara Plaza Nice is a lovely hotel in a great location and there was plenty we enjoyed about our stay. Our room was really lovely and the terrace was superb – probably one of its best features. The fizz and chocolates waiting for us on arrival were also a very welcome touch. There isn’t really a lobby as such, although there is a pleasant little coffee/lunch spot on the ground floor. It never seemed particularly busy during our stay, but we tried it for lunch and it was very pleasant. The rooftop bar was lovely and the cocktails were excellent. Breakfast was also excellent – plenty of choice, good quality and very good service. We really couldn’t fault it. The staff generally were pleasant and helpful and, when we raised our concerns, a manager spoke to us, apologised and offered us a late checkout, which we accepted and appreciated. Overall, there is a lot to like about the hotel: a lovely room, fantastic terrace, excellent breakfast, a great rooftop bar and generally helpful staff

Unfortunately, there were too many small issues for a hotel at this price point and one that prides itself on being a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Although our room was lovely, wardrobe space was surprisingly limited – probably the smallest closet we’ve encountered in a hotel room for a long time. And then there was the hairdryer. It was genuinely awful. It had some sort of over-sensitive sensor which made it incredibly frustrating to use. This was actually the first time I haven’t packed my own hairdryer because the hotels we’ve stayed in recently have provided such good ones. I regretted that decision! It sounds like a small detail, but at this level you expect the basics in the room to be good quality and practical. There were no prices for the soft drinks in the minibar and, despite asking three times, nobody was able to provide them, so eventually we simply gave up. Coffee wasn't replenished on our second morning and there was no turndown service on our first night. We also had an issue with the shower leaking water onto the bathroom floor. It wasn't really resolved, although we eventually worked out that standing well back in the corner of the shower avoided most of the problem. More significantly, we had water leaking from the ceiling due to condensation from the air-conditioning. From what we saw, we don't think ours was the only room affected. These things can happen, but unfortunately it happened just as we were getting ready to go out for dinner. Having maintenance working in the room inevitably delayed and inconvenienced us. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant was also poor, despite the bar itself being lovely. Two of our side dishes arrived after we had finished our main courses, which was frankly embarrassing for a hotel at this level. We were offered a complimentary dessert, but by that point we were rather fed up. Our tip would be to enjoy a drink on the rooftop but eat elsewhere – Nice has far better dining options.
