It is indeed a stunning, fully equipped, stylish villa, and you can tell the hosts have great taste and are proud of the place. The family members were very friendly and welcoming before settling in and while we were leaving. It was even a bit bittersweet.
The basement room was unheated (it was 9 degrees Celsius outside) when we came in despite booking 24 hours in advance. The bathroom was also unheated and cold. We came late around 10PM and the nice girl met us. We checked the room and described the problem with cold and she said her parents will turn on the heater. However, we waited and it was cold as before, battery not working. We decided to disturb the hostess herself, and she came downstairs, but argued that it was warm enough. We felt unwelcomed when we tried to speak English to her and she kept saying she doesn't understand despite English being listed as a spoken language. We also tried German (we knew a few words) but she would smile a bit ironically saying she doesn't get it. It was futile, like speaking to someone who had decided we wouldn't need heat (commentary "it's not Italy"). We pointed out 9C then asked at least for a blanket. She brought only one that looked like a towel and left. The sheets were super smelly of detergents and I am highly allergic. I couldn't open the windows because it was so cold. Half the night we couldn't sleep, I put my winter coat on to fall asleep and hot water bottles. Upstairs it was warm but not in the basement. By morning the heater started working - but the checkout was at 10AM so we didn't use anything else and frankly had an unpleasant and difficult night. I believe it is only fair that the basic needs should be met and not all visitors are the same. The stark contrast between the villa itself, the hanging national flag outside, and giving us an unheated basement, saving the energy, older host not speaking any language other than German, while gaslighting about it being warm enough was quite a shock. We will assume the most human explanation - the host was probably not fully herself because it was night and maybe had a bad day, hopefully not something against Eastern Europeans.
