The White Lodge Hotel

Easy self check-in. Comfortable bed in clean room. Nice shower, towels a bit small. Didn't meet any staff but instructions by text were good. Responded to my messages and their number was available for emergencies.

On a busy main road so quite noisy. Room was quite small and only tea and coffee in room, although there was a small fridge.

Didn't like front door being kept open with no staff in reception. Apparently monitored by CCTV but would prefer a human presence! Close to railway and noisy overnight maintenance - appreciate not the hotel's fault

The room was clean and recently refurbished. The car park is big, and it was easy to park. The location is very convenient.

The place was totally unlocked, and felt really insecure, especially for a woman travelling alone. I didn't see any staff, which wasn't an issue in itself, but literally anyone could have wandered in off the street and been inside. The room was left unlocked for me, the keys on a table in the room. Again, that felt unsafe. Adding to this feeling of vulnerability, the toilet for room 11 was outside of the room. So I had to go out of my room, lock the door, go to the loo, and then unlock my room door again. All in a building that isn't locked, and isn't staffed. In the middle of the night, that felt uncomfortable. Perhaps the detail about the toilet not being ensuite was in the description, but I don't remember seeing it. And honestly, it wouldn't have been a major issue if there had been any sense of security in the whole property.
