Would book again and loved our stay!
Beds were comfortable, everything was VERY clean and the host had fresh towels available! It was the perfect spot to catch the subway and head into town, so I would definitely book again should I come back!
Looked like someone tried to tamper with the lock while we were away, but that isn’t the hosts fault!

Do not book!
My conclusion: DO NOT BOOK. This apartment is a basement. There is no real windows except two small openings to a wall. You will enter the property through an iron door with a padlock. It might prevent you from escaping in case of an emergency. I found the inside dirty, there was stuff lying around and the bathroom was stained with mold. The air condition was both very noisy and dirty. I found there was dirt and stain and filth everywhere. The wiring for some electrical device was out in the open. I got there with my daughter in the middle of the night and we did not stay, but rather checked into a hotel in the neighbourhood. Speaking of which, I found it not nice and actually scary at nights. Tusher was not helpful at all. He charged me a premium price for this hole and rejected my complaints. I then got in touch with City of New York Services and found out this: . The building might legally only be suitable for 3 apts and no commercial activities . Fire escapes must not be padlocked . All technical appliances must be working . There must not be any mold . Electrical wiring must not be in the open After informing Tusher of my findings and the possibility of a "311 complaint" with NYC Services he offered a refund of less than one third of my costs. To cut my losses, I accepted. I did not stay a single night, despite having booked a week. I suggest you dont stay there either. Save your money and get yourself a real hotel or apartment.

Very good
The rooms were nice and spacious, and it was also nice to have a backyard. It was practical to have standard utilities like soap and coffee provided with the apartment. It was also close to a metro station, about 7 minutes away from it, which took us right to Manhattan.
You could hear the people living in the apartment above us when they were walking above us.

The landlord is a very nice person
The landlord has been great, available and supportive for every need - five stars to him. The subway is close and allows an easy trip to and from JFK and Manhattan A supermarket is close on 36th street, ten minutes walking.
The flat is too small for five people; the furniture is old and the flat, in general, would need a refurbishment. It is not evident from the pictures but the flat is, actually, a basement below the level of the ground. The entrance is from the black metal door on the right of the building. There are no real windows, no fan to suck the air from the bathroom. There is an area for the deposit of rubbish close to the door and people regularly overloaded it so we often had to remove material to enter/exit the apartment. 40th street is not very nice at night
