Very good food but evening menu bit unexciting. More dog poo bins in grounds

The hotel is well located for what we wanted to do and see. The room was comfortable. The matress was softer than usual hotels these days. The breakfasts were excellent. The dinner choice is limited but what we had was generally good.

The room decor was dowdy and the furniture peculiarly old and not very functional. A drop down desk had supports that wouldn't come out of the desk. The bathroom was good and well done. The hall carpet was dirty, desperately in need of a good hoovering that didn't happen while we were there. The hotel gave me the general impression that it was run on a shoestring. We paid full price but I noticed the day before we arrived, they were offering 30% discounts. The hotel lacked the elegance one expects in hand picked hotels, and our fellow guests appeared in the dining room dressed very, very casually. Perhaps this is modern culture but it sure does cut through the elegance of an evening. I didn't use the spa, but I would have liked to swim. The swimming pool is one meter deep. Women were using it to walk through. Ridiculous. You can't swim in a one meter deep pool.
