Overall, we had a good stay at the hotel. The area was quiet and pleasant, the room was clean, and everything during our stay was comfortable. The breakfast was a little modest, but overall we were satisfied with the hotel.
Unfortunately, the experience after our stay was quite concerning.
I made the reservation through Booking.com using the “commitment to pay” option. It was my first time using this type of reservation, but I accepted the conditions and made the booking. When we arrived at the hotel, the receptionist told us that we needed to pay, so we did. We paid €272.16 using my girlfriend’s credit card, and everything seemed completely normal.
We checked out on Sunday without any issues. However, when I arrived home on Monday, I noticed another charge of €472 on my credit card, with the hotel’s name as the payment description. Naturally, I contacted the hotel because I assumed there had been some kind of mistake or double charge.
At first, however, the hotel denied receiving the money. I also contacted Booking.com, but unfortunately it was quite difficult to get a clear answer from their customer service. What made the situation even more frustrating was that nobody seemed to know who had actually received the €472.
The following day, the hotel did not even answer my call. Fortunately, I had friends who happened to be in Bibione, and I asked them if they could visit the hotel and speak to them directly. They did so, and the hotel said they would check the situation again.
The following day, Wednesday, the hotel contacted me and apologized. They explained that there had indeed been a mistake: the €472 charged to my card had been used to pay for another guest’s room. They apologized and returned the full amount that had been charged incorrectly.
I appreciate that the hotel eventually took responsibility and returned the money. Mistakes can happen, of course, and I am glad the issue was ultimately resolved. However, being charged €472 for someone else's room and then having to spend several days contacting both the hotel and Booking.com to figure out where the money had gone was understandably quite stressful.
