West-facing Hay Lake cottage with access to Algonquin Park
About this cottage rental
Nestled in Dysart and Others, this lovely cottage for $217 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. This is a glorious cottage property facing west onto Lower Hay Lake. Literally at the "end of the road" the property has 200 ft frontage and is surrounded by crown land to the west, north and east. There are fantastic sunsets from the deck and the dock. The main cottage has been completely rebuilt over the past decade and features an open concept living and dining room, a recently installed new kitchen and a screened-in porch large enough for comfortable chairs as well as a second dining area. There are two bedrooms (queen beds) one with its own deck and views over the lake. The new bathroom has a good-sized shower, as well as a washing machine and dryer. There is a large bunky on the property that sleeps two in single bed. There is also a table/desk and desk chair for remote work. The cottage faces west offering lovely views over the lake and glorious sunsets from seating on the outdoor deck, the garden (where the fire pit is located) or from the screened-in porch. We have pure drinking water from our own well. Our kitchen includes a well-stocked pantry with all the cooking basics. A canoe, two kayaks with life jackets and safety buckets are all included. Lower Hay Lake is a very large and connects to Hay and Drizzle Lakes, with 17 km of cumulative shoreline to explore. It is under-developed with only 70 cottages on the entire system. Very quiet with no jet skis! The lake is highly prized by fishermen for lake trout, bass and pickerel. From the cottage you can paddle/portage into Algonquin Park, or drive to the Park's East Gate in 20 minutes. Whitney is only 15 minutes by car and has groceries, LCBO, gas station and pharmacy. A new 14 ft fishing boat with 9.9 hp motor is available for an additional charge of $200 per week.

One of our best cottage stays! We loved everything about that place - the location, interior design (super cozy and inviting), the deck and the view, the lake itself, and close proximity to Algonquin Park and its hiking trails. It's a perfect place to relax and unwind. Thank you Jenny!
Highly recommended!!

It's a picture perfect spot exactly like the pictures shown. The beautifully renovated cottage (except the bathroom/shower addition) is in a perfect setting by the lake. It's surrounded by birch, white pine and maple trees; perfect for enjoying the fall colours in October!
All we heard was quiet and on some days the rustling of the wind in the trees and the call of a loon in the evening. The steps down to the lake are steep but the cottage is very beautiful and relaxing.
The daily walks up the driveway and along Hay Lake Road were good exercise! The woodstove kept us very comfortable and warm. A clean, well kept cottage perfect for relaxing by the lake!
Check in was welcoming and straight forward. Jenny and John are graceful hosts and we had a wonderful week at Elders Cottage.

If you are looking for peace and tranquility, then this real cottage is the choice. No Muskoka Madness here, yet opportunities for activities are plentiful. Hiking, canoeing, boating, fishing, swimming, sunsets, Algonquin Park, it’s all here! Jenny and John have gone to great lengths to provide an experience worthy of repeating. Absolutely everything you need is here, utensils, spices, pots, bowls. If you forgot something, it’s probably here. And clearly, the cottage and property are being improved each year. Our experience was truly better than we had hoped, and we will definitely be returning! Thank you Jenny and John for making our 30th anniversary unforgettable!

This was a perfect getaway for my husband and I, from our busy high-tech lives! We were looking for a cottage where we could both have some downtime, but also get out and enjoy the outdoors, and this was the perfect spot!
With Algonquin Park so nearby, we took advantage of biking, hiking and canoeing, and could even canoe into the park from the cottage. The swimming was also wonderful and the lake was perfectly quiet with no busy / noisy boat traffic. At night, it was a rare pleasure to see the stars so easily without the city light.
The kitchen came well-equipped, and we found we didn't have to use many of the common items we brought with us "just in case". The BBQ and outdoor deck were also taken advantage of and very much enjoyed!

Overall wonderful place to relax in a quiet cottage surrounded by nature! We were impressed with how clean, comfortable and well- equipped the cottage was which made our stay a great experience. The fishing was good from the dock and the sunsets and views of the lake were amazing.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Elders! My wife and I were in need of some serious R&R, and I think we'd have been hard-pressed to find a better venue for a week of peace, quiet and deep relaxation. The cottage is simple, clean and comfortable, with a well-appointed kitchen and a lovely deck for sunsets. Having clean well water available was a huge plus! The waterfront was perfect for our three little girls, who spent most of every day splashing around and enjoying the clear waters of Hay Lake. In addition to the cottage's canoe, Jenny and John were very kind and brought over a kayak, which the girls loved. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay and will hopefully return in the future!

Clean, well equipped, comfortable cottage. Hay Lake is beautiful and incredibly clear. Swimming was good. The fishing was good too, but unfortunately the catching wasn't ;). There are lots of small fish right off the dock so young kids would have a ball.

Although our week of vacation included dreadful weather and plentiful black flies, mosquitoes and deer flies (yes, in late July!), Elders proved to be a good spot for R&R. The cottage itself is rustic, cozy and clean.....definitely has that great Canadian cottage feel. There is a well appointed kitchen, great well water, updated bathrooms, a skylight in the master bedroom, and a large picture window in the sitting area with wonderful views. Outdoors there is a reasonable sized deck for sitting, a nice updated bunkie, a fairly easy path down to the lake where there is a good dock to tie up your boat and a small sitting area-----a great place to read a book or enjoy the marvelous sunsets. Hay Lake has an abundance of crown land and natural areas, has little boat traffic so is very quiet, has decent fishing and is good for both canoeing and boating. As the cottage is located at the end of a roadway it is very peaceful. We enjoyed hiking along the road with our dog. This cottage is best suited for a couple or a small family. Renate H.
