I recently dtayed at Ruthin Castle for two nights with my husband and our baby daughter. The delux room was a fantastic size and was clean. The travel cot wasn't in the best condition but luckily we brought our own. If visiting with a pram, I would suggest asking for a bedroom on the ground floor as there is no lift. The main entrance isn't very accessible but you can enter through the resturant which has no steps.
The castle is in a fantastic location and town is easy accessed. The castle inside is a little old and run down in some areas but I would stay again. I would also recommend taking your own hairdryer as the one is our room was broken.

Overall we had a lovely time.
However we didn't think the service was particularly great and the breakfast on both days was appalling; we were asked what time we wanted breakfast and stated 9am but on both days there was nothing left. We had to ask for everything we wanted and when things arrived they arrived separately therefore not allowing us to eat together or as one complete breakfast. The staff on duty were not visible in the dining area to ask.
Our room was comfortable but we were surprised that our towels were not refreshed or bed made in the morning.

Second stay , very nice hotel. Little dated with some wear showing in rooms . Hotel lost its boiler one of the nights , so a bracing cold shower was not the best start to the day . These things happen though , creature comforts all covered .

Only stay here if you are allocated a renovated room!

Our family Loved it. Its better than expected and the history is just beautiful.
Room is very large. Decor is super fantastic and then so many extras. !!
If you are expecting Windsor then you will be dissapointed but since you arent born into the Royal family then I guess you will have to have an Amazing experience here!!
The grounds are great, local dining, onsite dining, big bathroom, bay windows, big bed.
What a treat!

Fabulous hotel, one of the best short breaks I’ve ever experienced. The castle grounds are stunning and the food was top drawer. Hotel room wonderful and the staff were superb. The female receptionist yesterday afternoon was so friendly and accommodating as was the female receptionist who checked us out earlier today. Ellis in the restaurant was fantastic, so welcoming, polite and professional. We will definitely be returning as a result of our experience and Ellis and others being top drawer with superb etiquette. Thank you

Yet another great stay at the Castle. our 15th visit in 12 months! Warm and clean room. Always plenty of hot water to take a bath or shower. Staff always friendly and helpful.

Had a relaxing two day stay at Ruthin Castle, incorporating a spa day, the staff are so helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
The evening meal and breakfast was exceptional. Plenty of choice, varied menu,

Ps special thanks to the barman, lovely guy

It was lovely to stay at a castle. It’s just unfortunate that the current property owners have let the property get so run down inside.

Went for a one night stay for my partners birthday.what a lovely experience it was.
After reading reviews after booking it I was wondering if it was not going to be so good.as some complaints about it being slightly run down and cold.we went with an open mind and we was not diserpointed at all.it was actually much better than we ever imagined it was going to be and we can't wait to go back.
Our room was just fantastic, warm, clean and furnished beautiful.
We had a four poster bed and it was perfect.
The whole experience was so lovely and the staff where very attentive and helpful.ruth from the dining room was such a lovely lady and couldn't do enough for everyone.
The food was fine we had an evening meal and breakfast, couldn't fault it.
Had a wander around the grounds seeing all the wildlife and peacocks.granted some things are a little tired and tatty but it's a castle and none of that reflected on our opinions of the whole experience.we absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back.
Thank you for a lovely stay ,lovely experience and very nice staff.

A splendid building is let down by very poor standards. There seemed no contingency in cold weather to heat the public spaces as well as the rooms. Absolutely freezing and virtually impossible to rectify with the inadequate heating system. Shower drain was blocked. Toilet seat damaged. Some lights not working. Mould on bathroom tiles. Two panes of glass missing from large window on main staircase with freezing air blowing in. The list goes on and most of these issues could be rectified quickly and at minimum cast. The quality of the breakfast was mediocre and very poorly presented with buckets of food being poured into serving dishes. This should not be carried out in front of guests waiting to serve themselves but done elsewhere and brought to the dining area ready to serve. Staff are very friendly and simply require guidance and support which appears to be missing.

What a fabulous place; the building is beautiful, the grounds are lovely for a wander around and the room was magnificent. The room was warm, the bed very comfortable and bathroom was clean and the towels were fluffy. We would very much recommend this place to stay. The food was fab: amazing choice for breakfast and really well thought, seasonal dinner options. Good wine list and lovely bar to relax in.

We arrived from Australia and we wentto our rooms. We had room 214 which once inside the rokm it was nice and large. Our frie ds who paid the same price were next door in a room just decorated and the carpet had been laid but not tacked down. She tripped walking out the bathroom had to go to receptio to report it as she had no phone in her room 213. Reception said they would look into it ut nothing happened. The two rooms were way down corridors which had painting and workman, ladders etc we had to maneavour around the all. Once we arrivedat the rooms the corridor was full on beds, furniture and no lights on in the corridor very unsafe. We totally felt isolated from the other guests. Very disappointing.

Stunning grounds & castle, a delight to stay. Our room was perfect & had not yet had the refurbishment which is ongoing. Spoke to workmen who are installing the new air conditioning - a mighty task for a huge building.
The staff from front of house to the cleaners were absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, generous with natural smiles, conversation & helpful voluntarily. From the moment you arrive, they are committed for your comfort & enjoyment.
Ignore previous negative comments, they're insane! E.g:
1:No hot water - it's a huge building, let shower or taps run, by the time you have cleaned your teeth the water is very hot ( just consider where the boiler may be to make it to your room)
2: Afternoon tea: 3 finger sandwiches, 2 mini chocolate brownies, slice chocolate flan, 2 slices Bara Brith, Welsh cake (scrumiest I've ever tasted) lemon posset, good sized scone with jam &cream. Endless tea & coffee you can mix. Service was impeccable & relaxed, each extra tea was brought with a fresh teapot ∪.
3: Breakfast, buffet 3 day, service one day. Excellent choice of yoghurts, fresh and dried fruits, pastries, Jams, honey, marmalade, choice of bread , vast choice of quality hot food including cured bacon & great sausage.
Evening meal again did not disappoint.
Gardens & wildlife are so relaxing as are the public rooms if which there are many.
I will return as soon as physically possible, this has been a hidden gem & my now oasis, cannot recommend highly enough.

Stayed here as attending a wedding. The property is impressive but it’s well overdue some refurbishment and really over priced for then condition. I stayed in a Deluxe room and I’d have hated to see what a standard room was like. The room smelled of damp/stagnant water as soon as we walked in. The bathroom window was wide open so it had been noticed. The mattress was paper thin and we found the source of the smell was a leaky toilet the following morning.
It’s a shame to see such an amazing building in such poor state. It would have been over priced at half the room rate we paid.

Nice hotel in lovely grounds - hotel has a nice atmosphere and lots of history. Slightly run down due to its age but that is part of its charm. Was pleasantly surprised with the room and staff were all lovely and helpful

Nice relaxing overnight stay before heading home in an old castle building with lots of interesting features

A beautiful hotel in an amazing setting. It has all the grandeur of a castle, even if some of the décor isn't. It seems to be half through a bit of a refresh in some areas, and witha little more eye to detail it would be truly spectacular. The staff are amazing and the room we had was magnificent. We'll be back.

Our thoughtfully designed room was very attractive with most needs catered for. A dressing room area, a splendid bath/ bathing area shielded from view) plus a shower room with toilet complimented the 4 poster bed.
The tired decorative condition of the room was acceptable though the en suite shower room needs attention as do rotting window frames.
When renovation is started we suggest a duel shower head to cater for all guests.
Overall a lovely stay in a beautiful environment.
The receptionists were both very kindly, helpful, and all round perfect for their role.

The hotel has nice grounds, interior nicely decorated, its overall condition is in keeping with its age but didn’t affect our stay.
Big disappointment with buffet breakfast, the hot food was terrible, eggs and sausages had a funny taste and the addition of tinned tomatoes instead of fresh was awful. Inquired with reception staff and told the breakfast would cost €9.95 per person but were charged €14.95 each, their explanation to charging extra was that we hadn’t booked it the night before, UNEXCEPTABLE…even staff were embarrassed by this ‘so called’ hotel policy and apologised. It seemed they’d used the cheapest ingredients possibly so not value for money at all.
Our bathroom seemed fairly recently renovated but a huge disappointment as everything was wet all the time as they placed big shower rose in middle of the space with nothing to stop the water. Had to place towel on floor to stop carpet getting wet to use the toilet or basin.

Great location and helpful and friendly staff.
Shame i was only staying for 1 night.
Will definitely book again and recommend to anyone i know will be visiting around the area.

Daily room cleaning had to be requested and was not carried out even with a firm request. Hence, dirty towels left in the bath for two days and night staff running around trying to locate fresh linen, tea, milk etc and toilet paper! The room phone didn't work so unable to contact reception ...to complain. The toilet and shower leaked meaning lots of wet towels on the floor and on our 4th day we didn't have any hot water....cold showers! The breakfast was made up of the cheapest ingredients possible ,however, the staff were very friendly/helpful and trying hard to make a silk purse from a sows ear!!!

From first arriving, Barbara, the receptionist, was very welcoming and helpful. This set the stay off to a great start.
Throughout my stay, I had encountered other staff, in the bar area and restaurant. All the staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming.
The only downside was the spa area. There were no individual costs for certain areas. For example, it was not possible to pay just to use the sauna and or steam room. It was priced soley for a three hour session with the hot and refreshment included.
Nevertheless, I would stay here again.

Spent a comfortable night in 1 of the large tower rooms. The building is showing its age in places but this mostly just adds to the character of the place.
