Room filthy and not a double bed as advertised

Very disappointed to find on check in that we were booked into a room in building which was over the road from the hotel and above a busy bar. Did after asking about cancelling get room changed into the hotel but the toilet seat was broken, cracked sink and room was not very clean, even a ladies silver ring left on the floor.

Fast check in room was lovely was a little hot though a fan was supplied in the room which we used. Fab little addition was the fridge in the room. Great value for money will be back.

Friendly staff. We had to park across the road on another site.
Room clean and comfortable bed. There is no lift. We didn’t eat in the hotel.
Reasonably quiet by we were woken at 6.30 on Saturday morning with unexplained noise from the roof.

I had booked the Cairn Hotel as i had stayed their previously, however 24hrs before arriving I was told that I would be staying at another hotel over the road as this was where the twin rooms were located! If this had been explained at the time of booking i would not have chosen this hotel and gone elsewhere, however with 24hrs notice I had no choice. The hotel was the Carlton and was little better than a youth hostel. The rooms were desperate for a revamp. The bath had no taps. The towels were dirty, having makeup stains in them! Everything about the room was dated and shabby looking. What was worse was the fact that the flat roof outside of the window had a discarded 'item' lying there which I do not consider appropriate under any circumstances.
Parking was chaotic as I was told to park at the Cairn hotel, and to "block people in", but then there was no parking when I returned on the first night, and ended up parking at the back of the Carlton hotel. I don't expect to have to drive around to park my car when staying at a hotel.
I will never book at this hotel (where I didn't even stay, ironically) again, and please avoid if you want anything other than a double bed! Absolutely shocking.

Left my glasses at the property and they said it wasn’t there when I left them on the desk! Gutted and it took them several calls to confirm this!

Stayed for one night (Friday) Great location, 30min walk to city centre or bus from outside hotel (vert frequent).
Friendly staff, very helpful. Great bars, Cairn Hotel bar more for the younger generation as the night goes on, Sister hotel great bar for the older generation 40+
Plenty of eating places and all at reasonable prices.
Would defiantly return.

After booking the Cairn Hotel, we actually ended up in the Carlton Hotel across the road, it’s run by the same people. The day before we travelled we received an email stating that it could be noisy outside, this is unfair, should be in the listing on Hotels.com and should be repeated right after booking, not the day before when you can’t rebook.
The room was OK, the mattress was very soft, which isn’t to our taste, but it’s difficult for hotels to cater for all on this. The Decor both in the main hotel and in the room was very tired. Our keycards stopped working and someone had to be sent from the other hotel, this was sorted in about 10 minutes though. The Extractor fan in the bathroom was situated above the toilet and a few times dropped large amounts of dust when it was active, at one point onto my head. The room was incredibly hot despite the radiator being switched off, but because of the incredibly noisy area outside the hotel, opening the window invited more of the noise in, closing it meant that the room didn’t cool. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this hotel due to the poor overall experience, especially when it wasn’t cheap.

I have stayed at the Cairn quite a few times over the years, for work and pleasure and it was always a great experience, but now they have acquired the Carlton hotel across the road and above a loud pub(Spy Bar), this trip was spoilt by us being placed in this hotel.
The rooms were very small, in fact my room had a double bed that I could not walk round because the bottom left side of the bed was right up to the wall, therefore I had to climb over the corner of the bed to get to my side.
The newly acquired hotel is a bit run down and had a feeling of overall tattiness.
If I couldn't get a guarantee that I would be staying in the original Cairn hotel, I would not book with them again.

Stayed for a weekend break and booked as it looked great on the website and was in a good location.
If it’s a peaceful nights sleep you are looking for, this is not the place for you. Quite possibly the noisiest and rowdiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
The rooms look absolutely nothing like the pictures on hotels.com, it wasn’t even in the hotel building itself, but across the street in a noisy building above 2 rowdy bars.
Cleanliness I couldn’t fault and the room had a good supply of towels and amenities. Close to West Jesmond Metro.
The noise in this hotel absolutely ruined my weekend and I was glad to leave to get some peace and quiet. I wouldn’t ever stay here again. Even when the pubs closed, people continued to party, bang around and scream all night.
A terrible terrible disappointment and not worth the money that they charged me.

room is nothing like what it was meant to be, in a completely different building.

Excellent - good location for our destination, good breakfast would stay there again!

Put in hotel over the road, unable to sleep due to noise. TV broken. Will be requesting a refund. Had previously stayed in main hotel with no issues, but no advice on booking about which hotel you will be placed in.

Very clean and comfortable room, very spacious and well worth the money.

The hotel was really good value. The room was clean, and the breakfast was excellent.
My only complaint would be the level of noise from the onsite bar area

Didn’t like going across the road for breakfast although breakfast was ok . No body around in the Carlton to ask for anything.

Great location
Great staff
Free limited parking
Good beer and more importantly a great vibe. Student area so nice and busy. Only thing was it’s noisy as the walls are thin so you can hear other rooms talking and doing other things let’s say. And the twin beds are very small and not that comfy. I really didn’t sleep well at all

Dates but did it's job. Stayed for a night in the Carlton across the road which is part of the hotel. It's an old building and doesn't seem like it's had a lot of work done to modernize it. The rooms are dim and dated and incredibly warm, it was a cool day outside but uncomfortably warm in the room. Saying that it was affordable and did it's job.

For the price, this was outstanding value. £48 for a comfortable, warm room (It was minus 6 outside), nice shower, comfortable bed, telly. The area is fantastic with lots of pubs, bars and excellent restaurants, so Jesmond is better than central Newcastle if you want amenities. There's even a Waitrose almost next door. The down side of all this, if it bothers you, is the noise from outside which goes on until about 11.30pm. It certainly didn't bother me. There are two buildings as part of the Cairn group. I was in the building opposite which is a 2 minute walk. The walls are very thin. I could hear every detail of what was going on in the room next to me, which was limited to 20 minutes of enthusiastic sex at 5pm, then nothing (!). There was a notice in the room advertising that free ear plugs can be obtained from reception, so suspect that this goes on quite a bit. I'd definitely return. Love Jesmond and the price is great for business trips and even leisure breaks in the area.

Staff were very friendly and polite. Room was cosy and clean and was very easy getting into the city centre and back.

We booked to stay at cairns but somehow we where sent to a hostel like place (Carlton) 2 lefts and then you are on the Jesmond strip?
I booked this just as I one night away. Honestly never again. Gutted as the site and reviews looked so good .

The room I was given was in different building from the main hotel (which looked a much higher standard than the one my room was in). The room was cold, the window latch was broken, and the window onto a flat roof immediately outside the room which I thought was unsafe. There was clearly no soundproofing in the room as I could hear other guests on the floor speaking and moving around all night. Although I had booked two nights, I moved out to a different hotel after the first night.

Room was nice and clean, staff were lovely and helpful. I was up on the top floor, which proved quite difficult with a pram and 3month old to contend with, as there was only stairs and no lift, although i cant fault the staff for helping me up and down the stairs

Very nice pleasant atmosphere and the staff are also very nice and pleasant too

Nice hotel , for the money .

The property is not as described. The room itself did not look as advertised, and the room is a lot smaller than it looked advertised. Alongside this, the room itself had dirt marks on all of the walls, which looked as though someone had rubbed dirty shoes along the walls. It was also very noisy in the morning when the cleaners are going from room to room, you can hear everything going on outside the room and it did not feel like a great experience.

A great location in Jesmond. There was no issue with being in the other part of the hotel, however, it wasn't always easy to get access to the other part. The breakfast was excellent as were the staff. I'd stay again for sure, good VFM

Great food in the restaurant, try the tacos and nachos 😊
Clean room and pleasant staff.

If you are staying in the Motel part of the hotel - across the road, its the noisiest Stay over in any hotel i have ever had in the past 36 years
Its not just the people its the doors , the stairs , everything makes a noise - Room 416 should never be offered

A bit noisy for me . The place have Resturant attached to the property and gust and staff always moving .

On arrival the receptionist was friendly but presumed I know the area and where to park. The parking was behind an opposite building down a dark alley . They operate a double parking system and had a phone call at 7.30am to move my car . I had to ask where breakfast would be served ( again I think they presumed I knew the hotel) I had to park off site on arrival and got soaked carrying my luggage to hotel ( obviously the rain wasn’t hotels fault ) only to be told our room was in a different building across the road. Our room was clean and had tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer and iron& board. room was hot but they had a fan in the room which helped. There was a mirror in the bathroom but not in the room so if you wanted to dry and style your hair with straighteners there was no mirror to see what you were doing . The bannisters going up the stairs and the paint work ( in the Carlton) were filthy so they could do with a clean . Overall comfortable but a few things need looking at

Friendly staff, clean place, potentially a bit noisy as our room was half way up a staircase and everyone in the place was up and down outside the door - it was ok as mid week and fairly quiet but I imagine a Friday or Saturday night might be a bit different.
Breakfast perfectly good.
I'd definitely return here.
Parking is cramped and requires musical cars in the morning as everyone gets double parked just behind the hotel.

I booked and paid to stay in the Cairn hotel then received an email saying I was put in the Carlton rooms
Noisy, smelly bathroom, TV didn’t work properly
Room stank of cigarette smoke from bar below
Smashed bottles

Room was very tired. Bathroom door warped so didn’t open well. Sound system played music from 7 in the morning, finally worked out how to switch off, which was faulty. Breakfast was cold. Overall experience not good and wouldn’t book again.

Everything was fine EXCEPT:
In room 313 there was very little hot water in the hand basin or shower.
The plug device in the hand basin failed to serve its purpose. Hot water that (slowly) emerged from the tap had drained away before it was useful.
I reported these problems to reception on leaving
