We only spent one night at the Hillwinds Inn, but we were impressed. We'll be back for sure. The rooms were and comfortable (cleaner than some very high-end hotel chains quite honestly). The beds were comfortable (pillows were too soft for me personally, but my family loved them). Walking distance to many shops and restaurants and Door Dash even delivers if the local flare is not to your style. The water pressure in the bathroom was great except for the shower, but it woke us up just fine.

1. Check in - the check in time posted on the website cited 3pm as check in. I arrived at 5:30pm and was informed that my room was not ready. I was not communicated with in advance that there would be a delay in check in and the staff offered no apology or means of making the situation right. We were also told that the room would be ready in 1 hr and that we would receive a call. An hour and fifteen minutes later, we had not received a call and walked back to check as we were anxious that the issue wouldn’t be resolved prior to the office closing at 8pm. We arrived to find the receptionist on her phone and still had to wait a few more minutes to get in to our room. Again, no apologies that we were not allowed in our room until almost 7pm and our dinner plans ruined. 2. No hot water - the next morning, we awoke to no hot water in our room. We tried the sink and the shower and let the tap run for 10 minutes to give ample time to heat up. I called the property to report the issue. After waiting an hour for help, I walked to reception to ask for help but it was closed. No one ever came to fix the issue, we had no hot water for two days & no apology. 3. Unacceptable room condition: pilling bed linens, damaged curtains, dirty towels, broken phone, etc. Also, housekeeping didn’t come for 2 days. 4. I emailed management to share my experience and did not receive a reply for two days. Upon calling, staff refused to refund my money and to allow me to speak to upper management.

A perfect cozy and quaint room. We stayed in the tarheel suite for the second time and it’s our favorite place to stay in the Blowing Rock area!

It was very easy to make a reservation. The staff was very polite, friendly, and outgoing. The rooms were clean and well organized. The beds were very comfortable. The area was quiet and I felt safe. I loved all the holiday lights and decorations surrounding the whole area where I was. There were plenty of shops and activities within walking distance. I would definitely recommend and I would definitely stay here again.

A very old but freshly made-over vintage 40s motel. Tiny bathroom with zero counterspace for cosmetics. Very clean. Coffeemaker doesn't work; breakfast (with coffee!!) not available until 8:30 when local restaurants open. I would like to have known in advance of the style of this accommodation.

My husband and I took a trip to celebrate 20 years of marriage and I didn’t want a “normal hotel”….I wanted an experience!!! When we pulled into the parking area, I actually gasped…it was that gorgeous! The Abemarle Inn exceeded my expectations! Charming! Detail oriented! A trip to remember! We are definitely returning!!!

No hot water. Hot water faucet in bathtub broken. Tub didn't drain well. Called emergency number and hotel staff told us to get a screwdriver to tighten the faucet handle. We just happened to have one, but wasn't able to fix it. Emergency on-call staff said there was nothing he could do. He asked if we really needed to take the shower that night. He was going to send someone to fix the faucet at 8 in the morning but no one came. During checkout, the same staff were rude and asked us to leave the lobby after we complained about not being able to take a shower with hot water. Although we had a screwdriver, if we had flown in from out of town, did he expect us to carry a screwdriver in our luggage? Also, it was not our job to fix the room. We paid enough for 1 night and expected the room and service to be better than what we experienced.

Great Location to Blowing Rock shopping/dining. Room had some broken light fixtures. Also water temperature in shower switches from hot to cold very quick if your neighbor is also showering. For the price, very good spot.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. They solved an issue with a barking dog efficiently and with kindness and followed up to check if the issue had been taken care of. The bed was VERY firm and uncomfortable. The furnishings are outdated, but maybe that added to some of the charm. Everything was clean and worked and overall, it is a great place to stay.

This is one of the old motel-style inns so I will review it as such. The room had plenty of space but as they usually do a lack of light. The bathroom was updated but the beds were probably too soft for most and they creaked. Also there was very little surface space. But it is attractive with a large parking lot. It is the farthest from Main street of the inns but there is food available a short distance up Sunset.

There was no where to put your luggage. The towels smelled like bleach and were so stiff, they actually hurt sensitive skin. There was one tiny bar of soap, the shower head was terrible, the water was brown coming out of the tub faucet. The beds were comfortable and the tv was large. It was very expensive for the lack of amenities, would not stay here again when visiting the area.

The location was great. Easy check in and fair price for the night. Our room was very clean but it was a bit dated. The only thing I didn’t like was the air conditioning unit, it was a wall unit that was too close to the bed and noisy. I didn’t sleep well because of it. Otherwise, very nice.

We enjoyed the Hillwinds Inn. It was close to the downtown with a quick walk. We stayed in a deluxe King room. It was clean but in need of some updating and the bathroom was old with cracked tiles and leaking faucet. Bed was comfortable and parking was easy. Id stay here again but will probably look at other options.

Overall, this property is good. I’ve stayed at most of the properties n this area, but not this one until this weekend. Clean room, nice property, quiet. Check in/check out was easy. My only two comments are these: 1) while it a huge deal, I was expecting hair dryer in the room, and there wasn’t one. Most all places include this 2) the water- took a shower, got water to the temp I wanted. Then it started alternating back and forth between scalding hot, and ice cold. The water pressure also almost stopped, and went to down to trickle, then blasting again. Made showering hard.

A unique little cottage. Very clean. Comfy bed. We had a kitchenette but were disappointed that there wasnt a spoon or glass in the place. Also, it wasnt good to use the air conditioner at night because the curtain covered it.

Booked room via Expedia. Stayed here many times. Three days prior to check-in , Sam and Griffin blew-up my phone … calling me at least 9 times in 30 hour period. What they wanted was my Credit Card ( keep in mind room booked Expedia and pre-paid ) for what they said was “incidentals .” No “incidentals “ at this property. Truth was they wanted to leave work early ( if they ever showed up at work) and tried to say they needed
