Excellent location, VERY helpful stuff!
Great location for our event, also breakfast place just in front of the door.
The couple next door was very noisy and the walls did not really protect us from hearing their private activities….

Good
Everything was clean, quiet room and the bed was comfortable. The location has parking near by and a coffee shop across the road.
The worker is quite in your face and twice I stayed there, both times he almost begged us for a 4 or 5 star review. Would be nice to walk in, get the room key and go inside.

A blast of 1960's hospitality with wonderfully helpful staff.
The staff was amazing! My already late arrival was held up by an awful fun fair in full swing in the garden in the street up the hill from the Varandazul and, in fact, entry to the street the hotel was on was blocked by highway police. Fun Fair attendees were parking willy-nilly all over the place and I was sure I was not going to find parking near the entrance and, at that late hour, would be reduced to schlepping my anvil collection down the famously cobbel-stone portuguese streets. But when the police officer let me drive thru the barricade pointing the way to the Varandazul and I got in the door and to the reception desk and asked the kind night man if there was any chance of leaving the car where it was, he said, 'Claro! Por favor!' and a great worry evaporated immediately. The next morning, after I'd seen a piece of needlepoint in a frame which seemed to be announcing breakfast and asked the morning attendee where the breakfast was being served, he informed me there wasn't actually breakfast as part of that room. And as I was saying, 'Ah, my mistake then.' he immediately started into explaining that, however, another guest had cancelled his breakfast reservation and that I'd be welcome to it. After a lifetime of staying at every sort of hotel, this level of attention to a guests needs is rare enough to find anywhere let alone an establishment sporting a mere 2-star rating.
The width of the room was more intriguing than annoying as I can't remember having had such a long thin hotel room before. And where most guests might find the dated decor of the Varandazul a negative point I considered it a living step back in time. The hotel has clearly seen better days and where most hotels would likely go to great effort and expense renewing everything to current standards, the aesthetic at the Varandazul seems to dictate that existing furnishings be kept clean and in working, if not perfect, order. And the result is a cheap, clean, functional room for the night - exactly what was needed!

the room was quite expensive for what it was. The decor was quite out dated, bathroom also, but was clean and comfortable

Pleasant
Very central in Palmela, friendly staff and the rooms were clean. It's a good deal for what you pay.
Infrastructure seems to be a bit old and not renovated but it's still a typical Portuguese hotel.
