We stayed at the Barcelo Funchal Oldtown for 9 nights, and found the hotel to be exceptional, with outstanding staff. Our king room was very clean, and the public areas were immaculate as well. The biggest surprise was the wealth of offerings in the included daily breakfast. Food included made to order omelets, a number of other hot items, fresh fruit, fresh baked pastries and breads, juices, automated coffee machines, cold cuts, cheeses, and many other offerings. The decor was ultra modern, and we understand the Barcelo was named the top hotel in the world by Time magazine. It has only been open for a year. The rooftop pool and seating area is very scenic and relaxing, something we visited every day. I highly recommend the Barcelo as a top notch hotel in the middle of old town Funchal. Transportation from the airport to the Barcelo by the Aerobus is very inexpensive (6 euro one way or 10 round trip - use stop 5 or 6 with a half block walk from either), and there are hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment businesses within easy walking distance. Enjoy!

Fantastic 4 nights in the barcelo funchal oldtown.Hotel in immaculate condition, everywhere was clean and tidy. Staff were approachable and friendly, aswell as professional. Room was excellent, very large king size bed, large bathroom with an excellent shower. Air conditioning actually worked and was most welcome after a hot day of sightseeing. Breakfast was good, lots of choice a two rooms of seating.....only slight problem kept breaking down, but staff on hand quickly to try amd remedy. Highly recommend this hotel ,its location was perfect for funchal oldtown, plenty of restaurants to choose from in the vicinity. Would definitely stay again if visiting funchal.

Wonderful! The location is amazing. Right in the middle of everything, short walk to almost everywhere you’ll want to visit. Absolutely perfect. The hotel staff were fantastic. Almost every person we interacted with went above and beyond. There were two ladies who worked in the evening that stood out, one in the bar and one at reception. So friendly, nothing was too much and they even helped us find more of the wonderful chocolates that you have in the room when you arrive! Breakfast is one of the best breakfasts we’ve had in a hotel. The egg maker man is wonderful and made our stay even more special. He even remembered our omelette choice for the next day and was happy, charming and just the best way to start the day. The buffet was well stocked, changed slightly every day and had something for everyone. The beds are HUGE and so so comfy. Choice of 3 pillows- pure luxury. The rooms were great. Wonderful shower, aircon worked well and everything was very comfy. I saw some recent reviews about noisy evenings, we had no issue and only once heard some noise in morning. The only thing that wasn’t 10/10 was one afternoon when we stopped at the hotel restaurant for lunch. There was some live music outside so it was super busy and everyone was having a great time. Unfortunately there weren’t enough staff serving so it took around 40 mins to get a drink which was sadly flat and the a further 40 mins for our starters. We would however recommend Noz- great food.

We were vacationing on Madeira and found the hotel and staff to quite good. Wonderful accommodations, spacious rooms with all the amenities we could want. Excellent breakfasts each morning with a terrific omelette maker on staff. Great view from rooftop pool, exercise room operating 24 hours. Very good location with ocean just a block or two away.

An absolutely excellent brand-new conversion of a former embroidery factory in the centre of town. Lovely staff. Excellent facilities in bedrooms and very well situated for all the attractions of Funchal. Highly recommended.

This hotel's location is absolutely fantastic if you are planning to explore Funchal. Lots of great restaurant options within 5 minutes walk, right by the water, and easy taxi access for transport. Check in and out was easy. Friendly reception staff. Great breakfast buffet, probably one of my favourites of all the hotels I've stayed. Great chef making the best omelettes - I had one every day. Lots of healthy options and good selection of espresso drinks through their machine. The breakfast staff work very hard and are always hustling. There is a small number of outdoor seating, which I really appreciated and tried to take advantage of when the weather is nice. Our king size bed was very comfortable and the decor is very chic in keeping with the rest of the hotel decor. All the towels were clean and plush. Bathrobes offered with slippers. Nespresso coffee machine, although we didn't use it. Shower pressure was very good. Pool area was nice, great for lounging and beautiful views. It can get quite busy and seating might be limited when the weather is nice. One thing to note - no parking if you are driving. We decided against renting a car and just using taxi or Bolt. Will come back in the future when I return to Madeira.

Paid almost $300 a night for hotel without parking, you have to park 8 minutes away and rate is about $15 per day. Water in room only included on arrival, bar upstairs is over priced and drinks were horrible taste and presentation. When I got to hotel i had many luggage and there was no offer to help at all or help to get them upstairs. Breakfast was the worst open buffet, recommend a menu. One big thing is the air condition in room it will turn off automatically is no moving object or when you leave the room which i thought it’s very inconvenient for such expensive hotel to walk to a hot room every-time. Space in room is extremely limited. The only pro is you have a lot of dinning options around.

There is a pool it it is a wading pool, not a swimming pool. The rooftop is wonderful and has very good night time views. Our room was quite comfortable and within walking distance of old town. The lobby staff was both friendly and helpful,

Receptionists were incredibly helpful - guiding me on prices for cabs, where to go and they even booked an excursion for me when I couldn’t find availability online. Wonderful stay, and a perfect location in the heart of the Funchal marina. Lots of restaurants, bars and things to do!! And their roof deck infinity pool overlooks the ocean; oh so calming! priceless!
