The villa is on a modern development close to the centre of Batu. It is a bit difficult to find, down a maze of narrow lanes, but once you get there the location is quiet and peaceful. The building is modern, on 2 storeys with a shaded roof terrace on top. There are three good sized double bedrooms with very comfortable beds, and there are several balconies for looking out over the surroundings.
The host, Fikri, tried very hard to be helpful, and responded rapidly to requests for coat hangers, bath soap and paper towels. He also organised laundry for us very efficiently.
The housekeeping and maintenance are not as good as they should be for a place of this quality and at this price level. We had to clean out the drawer under the sink when we arrived, and wash all the crockery. The tap over the kitchen sink was loose, and only provided cold water. Over the sink were some decorative lights that kept flickering and had to be turned off (the owner promised us this was being fixed). Upstairs, the shower head in the main bathroom didn’t work, and we had to use the normal tap instead.
More seriously, the kitchen equipment wasn’t enough for a self catering place. We had to go out to buy a frying pan and some mugs for tea and coffee, and there weren’t any table knives. The accommodation doesn’t promise a microwave, but the fact that there isn’t one makes heating things up very difficult, especially for small children.
Oddly, none of the three shower rooms with toilets had a washbasin, and there weren’t any at all in the property. The one wet shaver in our group did so by filling the kitchen’s one and only saucepan and balancing it on a toilet seat. This isn’t so easy to put right but a separate washing bowl would help.
