I love the variety of Onsen we could use and I love the both. Their dinner and breakfast, both were very good.
We arrived around 4 pm and by the time we checked in and start exploring the town, most of the shops in the town were closed. Next day, we had to catch a bus to the next destination by 10 am because there are only two buses to the Aso mountain area, next one was at 3 pm. I recommend to arrive early unless you would plan to enjoy the town next day. I didn't realize the area was so pretty with local gift shops and streams but they all closes early.

Very good Japanese cuisine for breakfast and diinner, fresh and tasty. Dinner was a buffet with a lot of Japanese local food, including fish and meat. There are not a lot of places to eat around and they are closed early

Staff is terrifically helpful- even more than we found elsewhere in Japan
Food was diverse, abundant and uniformly excellent
Decor was well done.
Baths were great
Room was large, comfortable and afforded excellent view.
