Sold a lemon

The location was central but did not feel safe. This was not the property that we ended up staying in.

We booked the accommodation because of its location and excellent rating on reviews. After booking, our accommodation was changed to another location and no discount was applied as it was like for like. The accommodation address was not changed on our booking which caused a lot of confusion on arrival. I phoned the number provided and was told that an email was sent with details on two separate dates. While on the phone I was able to check my email and there was no email received to inbox or spam. I then received an email (while on call) with new address and paragraphs of detail on how to access the property. Further confusion was around the location to pick up keys. This detail was sent through the booking.com app. The address didn't make sense and it took a few attempts to find the location, which turned out to be inside a vape/newsagents (unnumbered!). When we found the apartment building, the apt number was missing from the building so it took a few attempts to find it! As you can imagine I was already concerned. The apt was clean but the 'windows' in bedrooms went out to an external stairs walkway, windows did not feel secure (draft and lock missing and taped over), door looked like it had had forced entry and been fixed. At 1.30am our teenage kids both came into our room as they felt unsafe due to shouting outside...the external stairs were at level with building so felt unsafe). As you can imagine, I was so annoyed that I'd brought us to a place that didn't feel secure or safe. I sent a message during the night and phoned the next morning to share concerns. The customer service manager put me at ease but told me that nothing could be done until Monday. This was the case for her company and she also said that booking.com office was not open at weekend so couldn't do anything until Monday. We stayed on as couldn't afford to move accommodation with risk of not getting money back but it put a dampener on our trip.

Very enjoyable, got to visit quite a lot of places, o the coast and surrounding area

The property was clean, comfortable and well equipped and in a great location for city centre and all transport links

TV was difficult to navigate, but as we were out most of the time it didn’t matter greatly

Bed was very uncomfortable, not up to standard for what we paid. Also waited 30 minutes to get keys after letting them know we were there at a certain time.
