I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, situated on a quiet and peaceful street, yet only one stop away from Essen Central Station. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, the hotel was clean and comfortable, and the whole place had a warm, homely atmosphere. I truly felt at home during my stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again!

Great communication, calm area, old quality beds with good matrace, nice retro place, old but gold lift
Hotel is renovating, watch your feet

The hotel is cheap, so don't have expectations beyond the price you are paying. Having said that, it is ok for what it offers. Single room was spacious with a comy bed and a fridge. Shame the fridge wasn't already plugged in but that's a small point. Breakfast was ok, some bread, meats and cheeses, drinks and cereal. The halls are currently being redecorated, so maybe this will also include some rooms too.
Had to chase the hotel for the night safe code as wasn't sent when they said they would. As I was flying late and arriving late I didn't need the hassle of having to call them so close to when reception was closing. The wi-fi never worked (neither in my room, nor in the breakfast room). This was despite routers being visible on each floor.
