We loved being away from the crowds of Varenna and staying somewhere on Como that felt more local and authentic. Staying with Elena and her animals was just the eperience we were after, the cats and Tommy the dog are all very cuddly and full of personality - a real hghlight of our stay.
The view from our room of the lake was gorgeous, the roomwas clean and comfortable and the bathroom spacious.
Elena was very helpful in giving reccomendations for the area and even let us borrow an umbrella as the weather took a turn during our stay. Her son Pietro picked us up from the station which was very useful as taxis are hard to come by in the area.
Despite there being some options to get here without one I would highly recommend staying here if you have a car. The slightly out of the way location and elevation is much easier reached via car than on foot or by other transport.
The breakfast was basic with several options but it would be nice to have fresh pastries rather than packaged.

What a beautiful place, and the cats are so sweet and friendly, I didn’t want to leave.
The room was great, comfortable, clean, beautiful views, towels etc provided, no AC but a big fan, mid September the temp was good I didn’t need the fan. Bathroom is shared with room next door which wasn’t a problem.
Breakfast: great, help yourself type scenario, there’s eggs, a hot plate, pastries, yoghurts, fruit, nuts, coffee, juice
Location: if you have a car probably much easier. I did this without a car, it’s doable if you like hiking. I wanted a hiking holiday so it worked out perfect for me. As someone who trains 5 days a week and is an experienced hiker, the route from the towns is a serious hike, get ready to sweat 😂, the hike into town is easier because it’s mostly downhill, but the views on route are exactly what I came here for, panoramic views looking over bellagio and the fork in the lake (see pics of the trail and views if they appear).
If you’re walking DO NOT follow Google or Apple Maps, it will try take you on the road, there are footpaths everywhere that the maps don’t recognise. Get a free hiking app like AllTrails and follow the Varenna - Bellano (Wayfarer’s path) route, this will be quicker and give you the amazing views of the lake which the roads won’t. The property is right in the middle of the Varenna - Bellano trail.
I walked to the b&b from Varenna with my carry on suitcase, along the roads for the way up and through the forest on the way down. I DO NOT recommend it 😂 listen to the hosts and get a taxi if you have luggage. I did however do the route from Gittana to Bellano with my carry-on suitcase and it wasn’t too bad because it was mostly downhill but I did get some funny looks 🤣.
I generally walked into town along the hiking routes in the morning, stayed out all day, then got the free night bus back in the evening.

Huset ligger fint och lugnt uppe på höjden med fin utsikt från fönstret. Fanns parkering precis intill vilket underlättade. Rent men väldigt spartanskt!!
Luktade väldigt mycket kattpiss och hund i huset. Charmigt med djur men lukten var inte trevlig.
Frukosten var beräknad på antal gäster, så åt någon mer så räckte inte frukosten till alla.
