The staff was a highlight - very friendly, welcoming, accommodating and caring. The resort is very closely linked with the villages of the island, where staff members come from, and you can be confident that you are supporting the local people through staying at the resort. The food was plentiful and good. There was a range of paid activities on offer, and staff members were happy to discuss ideas and timings of activities. We walked across the island with a guide (Joseph) and learned about life on the island, ending at the northern village with a swim at a sandbar before getting a boat back (90FJD per adult). Another day, we did the 'swim with (reef) sharks' trip which was fun (100FJD per adult). Otherwise, we lay in hammocks, chatted to other guests, played volleyball and snorkelled off the beach (free) - there were quite a few fish and the hard coral is pretty good although not that colourful at the moment (I understand that this changes with water temperature and other factors) and there was little soft coral. We rented snorkel kits from the resort (10FJD per adult). Our bure was rustic but comfortable and a good size.
This is not a critique, just information for those looking at staying as there was some information that I didn't find when I was looking at reviews. Firstly, the showers are cold water which was fine for us but worth being aware of. Second, there were no activities on Sunday other than attending church.

Waya Lailai was better than expected ,the staff are the nicest people ever. The snorkeling out the front is stunning! The shark snorkeling was amazing and the village visit was the icing on the cake.
That I didn’t stay longer. Hot showers after a long snorkel would have been nice but it was not terrible. I still would visit again.

the location was nice, and the employees were friendly.
it bills itself as an eco resort, but relies on diesel generators for electricity, and doesn’t provide filtered water, requiring guests to buy plastic bottles of water. the excursions are also not great: for the hike, the guide (think his name was veu) raced up the trail, sat on the rock at the summit watching loud tiktok videos, then raced down in the dark, leaving me to find my own way down. i signed up for a village walk on saturday, and nobody contacted me for it or anything. it just generally seems rather poorly run. another example is they didn’t pay their starlink bill, so there is effectively no wi-fi (and no cellular reception). finally, the door to my room didn’t shut properly, so i woke up in the middle of the night to my doors wide open and wind blowing into my room. i had to prop up furniture to keep the door shut.
