I needed a place to stay for myself and two young adult children while we explored the state parks in the area and this place delivered. It was well stocked, clean and the welcome basket of bags of chips and candy was a sweet touch. The owners were so friendly and attentive. They checked to see if we needed anything and how everything was. The house was set back from a quiet road surrounded by pretty farmland with the hills in the background. It lived up to its name of Serene. It took us between 20-45 minutes to get to the state parks we hiked in. Johnsons Shut-ins is a must visit. We also hiked at Elephants Rocks (pretty cool) and Taum Sauk Mountain (rugged hike but beautiful) state parks. The small but cute town of Caledonia was a fun stop for a scoop of ice cream. There were grocery stores with-in 30 minutes and a well-stocked Dollar General about 10 minutes away. Despite being located in a peaceful setting the house is not far from many activities and amenities.
This wasn't a big deal for us but you could only access the bathroom through the bedroom but the bedroom was so dark at night and the doors didn't creak so you I never heard any late night bathroom breaks. There were also some things left in the fridge that should have been tossed out by the previous renters. All in all, there is really nothing negative about the place and we would definitely rent it again.
