A great experience staying with a local family. The host couple and their daughter live in the same building. They’re quiet and respectful, and this was the only time during my trip to Nepal that I felt so close to local life.
We had breakfast together, with healthy and authentic homemade food. I especially loved the yogurt with cereal and gram flour. The house is also a traditional Newari-style ancestral home, which made the experience pretty unique.
The room is spacious, with carpeted floors throughout. The interior is decorated with vintage items like radios and cassette, and you can also see photos of local festivals taken by the host.
I’m freelancing while traveling, and it’s pretty normal to have one or two power outages a day in Nepal. This isn’t to blame the homestay at all. The main issue is that my room is on the 2nd floor (1st floor in British terminology), and the neighboring building blocks most of the natural light.
The mattress also feels quite old, the side away from the wall is noticeably more sunken. And I smell cigarette smoke from time to time, which I assume is coming from a neighbor.

Dinesh and his family have created a beautiful space for travellers. The house is truly unique, and the different levels give the rooms a wonderful sense of privacy. There are many little stairways, quaint corners and great attention to detail. Bathrooms are shared, but were always clean. Wifi worked very well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for a few days, exploring the surrounding area and experiencing Newari cuisine. We had a sumptuous breakfast every morning, and one evening, we got to enjoy an authentic Newari meal.
Overall, it was a lovely and memorable experience. Dinesh is a very thorough and helpful host.
