The village of Pha Hee is on a very steep mountain top. The Mae Homestay is built into the side of the mountain. It has a porch with one of the most spectacular views I've ever seen: Endlessly fascinating and changeable clouds and mist, the lights of Chiang Rai at dusk seen through a cleft between two mountains. Extraordinary if you're a photographer.
In Pha Hee, the restaurants close at 4:30pm, and the homestay staff very kindly made a really delicious dinner for me twice.
As for the room itself, the WiFi is excellent, the hot water is good, there are enough plugs, power is reliable, the mattress is fine, the blanket is warm enough. (Hotel serves breakfast but I didn't get up early enough.)
These are not really issues with the hotel, but to help out however reads this--
I didn't think clearly about what Pha Hee's mountain location required:
1) I didn't bring a hat, and because the thin mountain air lets UV light through, I have a spectacular sunburn on my forehead and scalp;
2) I was there to photograph the Akha Swing festival, which is perhaps 100m away from the hotel horizontally, but also 100m away vertically!! Bring shoes that don't slip as you make your way up the cobbled street;
3) The mountains are cool; I should have brought a sweatshirt, sweater, or sleeved shirt. The room was never actually COLD or even chilly, but I am a person who hates even mild air conditioning. If the temperature had been any lower, I would have asked the staff if they had a small electric heater.

Actually the room can fit for 4 person. The view from the room was great and morning view is even more spectacular. The owner of the guest house offer us dinner even though it is not in the booking. Waking up with eeg friend rice and fresh coffee is everything.
