I would have loved to give the hotel a 10, but a few small things prevent that. When we got to the room, we wanted to find out how to lower the blinds on the sloping window, and then it turned out that there was no phone for reception in the room, and then we went to organize our suitcase and there was no place to put it. In addition, there was no more toilet paper. And these are the small things that spoil it. But all the advantages of the hotel mentioned earlier outweigh everything, and there is no doubt that the hotel is excellent.

Location is good. Close to all attractions but there are better hotels in the area. There are some issues which come with the location. 1.The hotel reception and the bar are one and the same. The staff gets busy in the restaurant and pay little attention to the hotel reception. 2. The hotel is dark and dingy. There is a sickening smell of cheap perfume throughout but the towels have seen better days and have a musty smell 3. There is music that is piped in all areas, including the rooms. It is extremely irritating. 4. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants that go on until 1pm. The room is hot but you can’t open the windows because of the noise. 5. The concept of providing a romantic hotel in the vein of the decadent Art Nouveau style, has turned tacky with many unnecessary decorations that allude more to a prostitution house than to a late turn of the century Parisian hotel. 6. The tacky decorations are intrusive and cover useful usable space. There are lots of photographs of partially dressed, naked women. It gives it a misogynistic feel. 7. The hotel is odd, not boutique. Access to the hotel is through the kitchen, if using the front entrance.

The accommodation provided is misrepresented by omission. I booked a Grande Chambre Noble for £348.77 per night. The booking was for 3 nights (total £ 1046.31).The following were not provided: 1. Tea / coffee making facilities in the room. There is a coffee machine in the hallway but who wants to go to a communal area for the morning coffee? 2. There is no TV in any of the rooms 3. There is no air conditioning and in July, the room was like an oven. The hotel is advertised with A/C and only on checking in, it becomes apparent that A/C is only available in some rooms but not in others. 4. There is no phone in the room. If you need to contact reception you need to physically go there. 5. There is no room service 6. There is no working desk or a dressing table in the room. There is no full mirror in the room 7. No bath mats 8. No slippers / gowns 9. No luggage racks – such a “posh” hotel and you have to open the suitcases on the floor. Luggage racks were provided next day but only after I requested this service 10. No vanity packs (no shower caps, no cotton pads, no ear buds) and none provided even after I asked 11. There is very little storage space in the room and none in the bathroom. 12. The room is miniscule for the price charged. 13. The reception staff is deceitful. When I asked for a refund so I could move out I was told that a refund will take 3-5 days to operate. When I asked for an email to confirm the refund, I was told that actually I would not get a refund as the booking was made on a non-refundable basis. When I pointed out that no hotel in the world would have refused a refund to someone who wanted a special birthday, they laughed. I assume that this happens a lot. You leave, the room gets rebooked providing a double revenue and you never get a refunded. There is a core staff of Philippine origin who are most unhelpful (except for the man who helped carry the luggage). 14. Breakfast is a la carte as there is no room for a buffet.
