I had two very nice days as a solo traveller in Melnik. My single room towards the road was clean, comfortable, quiet and sufficient for my needs. The owners helped me with arranging a taxi back to Sandanski to catch the bus to Thessaloniki. I suggest to communicate this to the hotel manager one day in advance, in order to make sure that the driver arrives in time. I was surprised to find a kitchen area which could be used by the guests for preparing coffee or simple meals. The location was super convenient, right next to the bus station and the hiking trails are easily accessible from the village.
You can do the 5 hours loop up to Rozhen Monastery, Rozhen village and then up the mountain to the orthodox church of Prophet Elias and the grave of Todor Aleksandrow. Then down and back to Melnik along the creek in the valley.
The pool area can be improved by simply adding some plants. The same for the kitchen area: with a little effort it could be much more inviting.
