The place to stay in Bikaner

Heritage property but has been completely refurbished so all the plumbing, bathroom, shower etc were new. Immaculately clean with crisp linen bedding and one of the best showers I’ve had. Beautifully decorated. Felt very safe as a solo traveller.Ambience and restaurant food were superb. Was well looked after by owners who ensured they supervised all meals. Read so many great reviews about this place that Cavalry Villa was the only reason I made a stop in Bikaner. Definitely lived up to the hype. Would highly recommend this place for anyone staying in Bikaner.

Beautiful, well-run hotel

I spent three nights at Cavalry Villa, a beautiful restored house in the centre of Bikaner, run by a former army colonel and his wife with military precision. My room (the Wedgwood) was very comfortable, WiFi good, breakfast plentiful. I also had a couple of good dinners in their restaurant.

Downside - the villa is across the road from the train station. Trains run late into the night and resume very early next morning, and the loud horn which signals each departure is enough to wake the dead!

Stay there - have dinner elsewhere

The "tasty" things: 1) The location: Very close to the railway station and walking distance from the center of town. 2) The environment: The home of the Former Army Colonel is converted into a home stay in a nice way with a good taste and the effort is apparent both in outside and inside parts of the property which is constructed as per Rajasthani architecture. 3) Our room was of good size and comfortable, the bathroomwas really big and clean, again tastefully done up. 4) Breakfast and dinner were served in a dinning hall that was nicely decorated by the owner couple. 5) The owner, Colonel Singh was hospitable and greeted us with a smile when we arrived. If there weren't the negative comments I made below, I would have rated it a 10/10.

The "sour" things: 1) The landlady could have been more hospitable and forthcoming. During our stay there we never saw a faint smile at her face. 2) The breakfast, though functional, was basic, couldn't call it a buffet, we had to order specific items out of the short list and quantity that was tightly controlled by the landlady. 3) At our arrival, we made clear to the owner that due to our work from distance, we wouldn't be able to have dinner before 9 p.m. and asked whether they would have enough time to prepare it for us (dinner is served until 10 p.m.). He assured us that this would be no problem at all. To our unpleasant surprise we found out that our only choice was plain rice (which was the only food warm enough and in quantity) and the - practically - cold leftovers of the other guests who had dinned already. It was made clear by the landlady that there was no other choice and we would have to settle with this. 4) To top up the bad dinner experience, we were asked to pay (plus taxes) 600 Rs for a cold vegetables curry vegetarian dish, 800 Rs for a non-veg chicken curry dish (with literally 3 small full-of-bones-and-little-meat pieces of chicken) and 600 Rs per beer... which was a really ridiculously expensive dinner for what it really was.
