The Stroud Hotel

This is a very decent 3 star hotel. The location is excellent (it is literally next door to the station and fairly central in Stroud). The staff were consistently excellent (Curtis in particular) and the beer and food were great.

Our room was over one of the entrances and a bit noisy with passing traffic/people and also the dray delivery in the morning. No big issue though - next time, we'll just ask for a quieter room. Also, watch your belongings if seated outside because we witnessed a young 'hoody' walk up to another guest's table outside (with the guest sitting there!) grab his packet of cigarettes and run. However, this is absolutely no fault of the hotel and we'll be staying there again. It's like anywhere else - just keep your belongings close and keep your radar on.

Great value for money

There are hotels where one merely leaves a suitcase, and hotels where one begins to suspect that staying another night would be an excellent idea. The Stroud Hotel is firmly in the latter camp. The old stone building has bags of character and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. My room was cosy, the bed exceedingly comfortable, and downstairs awaited that most civilised of arrangements: a proper pub and restaurant serving excellent food. The staff were a delight. Grant and Josh, in particular, were absolute legends, bringing the sort of warmth and good humour that makes a guest feel genuinely at home. With the station and town centre an easy stroll away, the practicalities were every bit as pleasing as the hospitality. A thoroughly lovely stay. Leaving required rather more resolve than checking in.

Good restaurant and bar area , close to train station .

Very overpriced , I paid £630 for two nights in what was advertised as suite with courtyard view ! The window couldn’t be opened for the noise and smell from extractor fans that was the view from the window , shocking room service , 1 bath and hand towel to share for both of us , not luxury at all
