A nightmare: jackhammer noise from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The worst part was the balcony. A huge building was under construction only about two metres away, directly in front of the apartment. There was absolutely no view, no daylight and no peace. The entire apartment was dark because every window faced this building.
This was not occasional construction noise. A jackhammer operated directly outside our apartment from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. every day. It was impossible to rest, work or even remain inside. I had travelled to Santo Domingo for medical treatment and physically could not stay under these conditions.
The owners said they could do nothing about the construction. Of course they cannot stop a building project—but they can stop advertising this apartment as having a balcony, a view and comfortable surroundings when they know these things no longer exist. Continuing to use outdated, misleading photos is completely unacceptable.
The owners also admitted in writing that the entrance-door lock was broken and installed a temporary bathroom-style lock, even after we said this was unacceptable. Then the gas water heater inside the apartment burned out, leaving us without hot water and creating a serious possible fire hazard.
We paid approximately CAD $1,100 but had to leave after four nights. I have dated photos, videos and written messages confirming everything. This apartment was dangerously misrepresented and the owners’ response was hostile and unacceptable.
