The things I liked about Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa were the big and spacious room, the very nice and relaxing view, and the clean and quiet atmosphere. It was a comfortable and peaceful place to stay.
The things I didn’t like were that the hotel is quite far from the city center, and the free shuttle service has very limited operating hours. I also found the bed not very comfortable to sleep on.

Staff were lovely. Very friendly and keen to help in any way. Excellent little supermarket just across the road. Breakfast was varied and great food. If you can go to breakfast later as the buses have all moved on. No crowds!
Onsen is wonderful as is the “happy hour” in the lounge.
Taxi into Nagano station cost $60 and takes up to 1/2 hour. Bit far out. Free shuttle runs at odd times and doesn’t start till 8:15am.
The dinner buffet was very crowded due to the number of tourist buses that arrived at dinner time.
Not really worth the cost. The only other option was Sushi from the supermarket across the road.
