We have hosted many a friends group between the two houses, and though there is a short stroll between, actually having the two houses apart a bit allows for flexibility and works quite well.

Do note that pets are allowed in the forrest house, and on the beach (with leashes), porch and grounds by the ocean, but not IN the seaside cottage. Fully loaded, you definitely must be considerate on the water usage for showers stacked up on top of each other and keep them shorter/spaced out.
