Weird and felt unsafe

A lovely quiet beach nearby with good snorkelling (no facilities so bring your own shade & refreshments)

First I was asked to bank transfer a deposit outside of Booking.com but it said to expect this in the description so I thought OK. But then they wouldn't give me an address to do so for security reasons, but agreed I could pay on arrival. A little odd but again I thought OK. Second to note: This property is a private apartment not a guesthouse, and does not have a balcony (it's on the ground floor), pool, restaurant or most of the other facilities in the description. Murdeira itself is not an actual village but a resort/timeshare style development, with nothing but apartments, 1 small local shop, and it seems there was a reception area at the very opposite end of the development, which I presume is where the restaurant & pool were. I was not told about this and had to piece this together using information on the Internet. I don't know if I would have been allowed to use these as this was a booking with a private owner, not through Murdeira Village itself. The location itself feels very isolated unless you have your own transport or live there, despite there being a number of residents about. This particular flat is owned by a Cape Verdean in Portugal, and her brother manages it for her. He does not seem to know what he is doing. I messaged on the day to confirm my arrival time, he didn't pick this up for hours then when my 1 hour flight landed at 10pm I picked up a message telling me he'd forgotten about my booking. I had to ask if it was still OK for me to stay, and he said yes. He sent me to location on Google maps then a ton of photos & a video of the entrance & surroundings (which drained my data) and said he was waiting for me there. When he met me he introduced himself in English, gave me the wifi code then just stared at me, he didn't even try & say anything in Portuguese.

I felt it.

Location. I stayed at the centre of the island, which was most convenient. The local shop makes a heavenly place into a paradise. For anyone looking for peace and tranquillity, this is the place. Walkable distance from the beach. And you're feeling really adventurous, like me, the neighbouring towns such as Santa Maria 2h, Palmeria, and Espargos are also walkable. Otherwise, you can always catch a Haice and the journey shouldn't take more than 16 mins tops.

Quiet home-from-home

Lovely, relaxing, quiet apartment away from the main tourist spots but with good basic amenities within the complex and next to a pretty beach with a fun bar.

It wasn't 100% clear how to pay from the information provided so I arrived without enough cash - easily sorted though.

Joli petit logement, propre et bien situé.. vu sur la mer. Proche de la superette et des 2 restos. Plage sympathique Personnel tres gentil. Merci à Alex d être venu nous ouvrir à 2h du matin car la porte s etait fermé avec les clefs à l interieur 😅... lieu tres calme et reposant Eau bien chaude avec une bonne pression
