Very warm and friendly welcome. We were given a thorough and knowledgeable introduction to the island, including concrete tips on what is worth doing and what is not. Our hosts also offered to help with booking activities. The lodge runs its own car rental, which is convenient, affordable and saves the search for a provider. The bungalow was spacious and offered plenty of room.
The micro-location on the island is worth knowing about in advance. The lodge sits on the south coast, on the side facing the trade winds. It was windy throughout our stay, while at the same time the northwest of the island had calm, sunny weather. If you are looking for a sheltered lagoon and reliable beach weather, factor this in. There is also the distance: most attractions — the Belvédère, Opunohu Bay, the ray and shark spot in the northwest, the beaches at Tiahura — are a 30 to 45 minute drive away each time. A rental car is essential.
