About this house rental
Welcome to the Treehouse—a retreat nestled away on a 1.5 acre hillside with a creek and panorama of towering oaks and California pines. Downtown Grass Valley & Nevada City are minutes away; and it's conveniently located on the Sierra Vintners Wine Trail. I fell in love with this house the moment I walked through the door and I hope you will too. I curated each corner for guests to relax and take in the natural beauty of the woods. It's the perfect escape for couples & small groups of friends.
The space:
Floor to ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, clerestory windows and skylights all maximize the views of the woods, creating an open and airy space, and a peaceful getaway from the city. I furnished the common spaces and bedrooms with comfy, mid-century designs to complement the natural backdrop of the trees. The living room features a wood-burning stove, record player and wireless Nebula projector (just sign into your Netflix, Amazon Prime or Youtube accounts and project your favorite movie against any wall in the house).
Fall asleep to the sound of silence and wake up amongst the trees. The master bedroom features vaulted ceilings, treetop views, a queen bed (on the firmer side), a plant named Susie, and a spacious walk-in closet and ensuite full bathroom. The loft bedroom also has a full bathroom, queen bed (medium pillowtop) and it overlooks the common areas as well as the treeline. The sunroom sleeps two more people with a pull out king daybed.
The deck wraps around the house and this is where I find myself most often. The east side has a couple of chaise lounges and an outdoor dining table under the oak trees; while the west side has a cute sitting area perfect for morning coffee, curling up with a book and blanket, evening cocktails and stargazing. Throughout the day, as the light and temperature changes, you’ll be able to find shade or sun depending on your preference.

We try to go to Grass Valley about once a year. When we discovered the tree house we were excited. It is a lovely home on the side of a mountain. Tadhg has built a beautiful home with so many truly unique features. The dining room table is one of a kind. Tadhg was very good at responding when there were questions. Thanks for hosting us. Would love to make this our yearly retreat.

The location is damn near perfect. Gorgeous setting, beautiful home, wonderful vibe. The host is quirky, very San Francisco. He is persnickety, so it wasn't the MOST relaxing trip for us and he charged us extra per person, which was new and it feels a little nickel and dimey, since you're renting the home. You should be comfortable with monitored cameras at all entrances. There is no washer or dryer on site, which was inconvenient for our 5 night stay, also you should know, the thermostat is locked, so if you want to control your own comfort, that's not an option. During our stay it was cold at night and a bit of a mixed bag during the day but the thermostat was stuck on cool. We wanted to run the heat but it took 36 hours to connect with our host, after that, it was stuck on heat. Sort of lame. Garbage--you have to take it with you. We live in Oregon. Do you want to have your garbage with you for 8 hours in the summer? What if you flew? Luckily for us, my son is local and was willing to put it in his trash pickup. The host's written advice is to put it in the cans of local businesses. What? Pretty sure there are fines associated with that. Please just DON'T. We wouldn't stay again. It was needlessly stressful (lots of rules and control issues). I think the host loves the house too much to really have it as a rental. I get it! I would love it too but just leave it as your personal vacation home and become more a part of the local community. No public dumping!!!
