I arrived for my idyllic rest, as shown on the listing, to find a building site right next door to the property. Part of my need to get away for a couple of days with pure peace and quiet was that I have had construction work going on directly behind my house for the best part of a year - noisy, shaking house and very disruptive, so when I arrived to see construction (not mentioned anywhere) taking place directly next to the property, I crumpled. I knew I couldn't stay there and explained to the wife of the owner (Rod) why I felt that way. She was sympathetic and said of course I would get a full refund and that it was 'only money' - easy for her to say. I left and found somewhere for the night (all the food I'd bought for the stay ruined) and then went home.
I wrote a nice email to the owners explaining my situation and also spoke to Booking.com with concerns that the property was falsely advertised - but of course they took all my money ('it's only money' says Rod's wife) - no concession for even the fee for the dog staying/ cleaning etc when I didn't even set foot inside.
As an aside, I did speak to the builders to ask how noisy their work would be during my stay, and they said it would be very noisy with constant use of the nail gun etc. I had also asked for early check in which was declined - I imagine because Rod didn't want me to arrive to the builders...
I would advise anyone thinking they are getting a peaceful idyll at this property not to stay.
