While the Sassi’s stepped landscape offers breathtaking views, navigating its historic paths with luggage can be physically demanding. This is especially true when the ZTL (restricted traffic zone) is active, requiring a walk from the parking area. We recommend packing light and considering your personal mobility before arrival. FACILITIES ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our home was La Finestra, a captivating residence nestled in the heart of Sasso Barisano. This two-storey sanctuary beautifully balances old-world charm with thoughtful modern comforts. The ground floor boasts a fully equipped kitchen—complete with a proper oven and hob—a cozy fireplace, and an intimate dining area for four set next to a lovely little balcony overlooking the Sassi. Upstairs, the bedroom serves as a peaceful retreat, featuring a king and a single bed, refined antique furnishings, and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom is exceptionally well-appointed with a bathtub, shower, and bidet, all complemented by excellent water pressure. From the curation of books to the premium toiletries, every detail feels considered. It is a warm, deeply inviting space that offers the perfect, welcoming embrace after a day of scaling the historic steps of the Sassi. CHECK-IN ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ While the property operates without on-site staff, Mary was absolutely wonderful, coordinating seamlessly via WhatsApp to ensure a flawless check-in. To my delight, she surprised me with a generous and beautiful cake for my birthday! It truly felt like coming home to family—by far the warmest, most thoughtful welcome we experienced during our week-long journey through Puglia and Matera. PARKING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The nearest safe and secure parking lot (paid) is Parcheggio Nicholetti €20/day. We left the car key with the staff and left some luggage in the car, no problem at all, nothing stolen.

The Finestra apartment is brimming with character, featuring a beautifully charming, vintage lock and key on the main apartment door. While it presented a bit of a puzzle on our first day—requiring a few patient minutes to navigate during check-in—we completely mastered the knack of it by Day 2. Guests should also note the striking, steep marble staircase that greets you at the main entrance, which adds a wonderful touch of grand historic charm as you head up to the apartment.

Great location, lovely balcony and the host Mary was fantastic . Followed her recommendations for dinner and sunset cocktail. What a find.

Amen vi kunne lide det hele. Vi havde ingen forventninger til byen, da vi ankom, men vi blev simpelthen blæst bagover af, hvor fantastisk et sted det er! Byen emmer af charme og har en helt særlig stemning – virkelig fortryllende. Lejligheden overgik alle vores forventninger; den var både smuk, rummelig og utrolig hyggelig, og beliggenheden kunne ikke være bedre med den flotteste udsigt over den gamle by. Vi nød at have skønne restauranter og cafeer lige i nærheden, hvilket gjorde opholdet ekstra bekvemt. Værten var utroligt imødekommende og hjælpsom med alle vores spørgsmål, og vi følte os virkelig velkomne fra start til slut. Alt i alt en fantastisk oplevelse – vi kan kun give vores varmeste anbefaling!
