The family are a 10/10. Jaime is super welcoming, friendly and happy to give you tips. We were given a nicer room than what we paid for with bathroom because it was open. You wake up and they are making tortillas on a wood fired plancha for sale. A bunny and a puppy wander around. They share campfire coffee with you. The neighborhood is very safe, even walking around at night and is very friendly and communal.
First, it is pretty far from Cobán itself, which is normally not a huge deal because the bus run for like 2Q, but are very crowded. It’s a pretty rustic spot, for example the hot water only works when there is sufficient pressure from the water tank. The smell from the drain is sometimes bad. The shared wall is just a piece of drywall, which is a bummer if the person next to you snores. To me all that’s fine if the room itself was cleaned better, the shower curtain was filthy and moldy and there were a lot of cobwebs and spiders.
