Smelly, poorly equipped and had cockroaches....AVOID
The location was quite good, being near the centre of Varna and near to a late opening shop. It was quite cheap. That's about it though.
Oh God, where do we start with this one. Google maps took me to the right location but there was nobody around when I got there, just a locked gate. I phoned the owner, and in a mixture of English and Bulgarian, he said he was coming with the key. It took him about 20 minutes and it was very cold. Where do we start with the state of the room. It was damp and mouldy, The shower consisted of a tube, there was no shower head. On the subject of missing items, this "apartment" had no toilet paper, no soap, two rather dirty small towels, no bedside lamp and the bed clothes were smelling of tobacco. If I hadn't been so tired, I would have walked away and informed Booking of my decision, but as it was, I had just travelled 9 hours from Sofia on the bus. The owner demanded cash as soon as he arrived.
My advise would be DON'T STAY HERE, sorry to shout, but I hope people read this and avoid a nasty experience. I hope that Booking also review this and take this abomination off their books. This is not a hotel, certainly not an apartment and you'd be much better off staying in a hostel for the night. Please, if you are Bulgarian, you don't have to put up with this rubbish. Shop around and don't stay in places that could be bad for your health.......did I mention the cockroaches? Maybe Varna's environmental services should know about this.
I've stayed in some great places in Bulgaria, with lovely clean rooms and attentive hosts. This however is not one of them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
