Too brutal and ascetic, they moved out before the deadline.
1. The host allowed us to check in late after midnight.
2. Fast and convenient Wi-Fi connection.
3. We contacted Booking support, and the owner kindly offered to refund part of our money. Booking emailed us five times in a row asking for the booking number and other information.
We booked this apartment based on the location and photos. Nothing foreshadowed it, so to speak.
Our first suspicions crept in when we found the entrance to the apartment building. The entire courtyard was broken, old, and overgrown. The staircase was broken. The door, staircase, and entrance doors were extremely old, possibly dating back to tsarist times. The lighting was very poor. The apartment's entry lock looked like a purely nominal lock, like a classroom lock, say, at school. The door itself was a hastily thrown together plank, and even the owner recognized the extremely low reliability of this mechanism and has installed a primitive, heavy bolt (a deadbolt) to lock the room from the inside. The impressions we had when choosing based on the photos were misleading; small details added new impressions:
- no flowers in the room; they had been removed, making the room much more austere
- the windows were in terrible condition, with broken locks, cracked glass, and dust on the frames
- the owner's personal belongings are stored in the room—behind the piano, in the sofa drawer
- we discovered several large beetles, some dead, and some crawling on the floor and surfaces. Perhaps this is due to the old wooden flooring, which is the same throughout the apartment, even in the bathroom.
- there was dust on some items
- chairs from some medical facility
- the stovetop was very old, possibly Soviet-era
- you could clearly hear the neighbors' voices
- rusty, dusty lamps and outlets in the bedroom
We questioned the freshness of the provided bed linens, and the pillows were very small. The towels were waffle cloth rags, and their freshness was also questionable. Overall, the apartment is a unique art object for cheerful, wild groups of young people. It's absolutely not suitable for families with children, i.e., typical tourists. The overall style of the apartment is brutalist. It's suitable for a single male traveler who prefers a more austere style.
