The lodge was lovely and was set out with a grass area in front of it which made it great for my 3 year old grandchild to play safely . Also very pedestrian friendly . We really enjoyed our break and would definitely recommend Hays Wood Retreat and would love to go again.
Not too keen on the wet room bathroom, as we had to keep sweeping water down the plug hole.

Quiet and relaxed location, clean and spacious lodge with good facilities. Staff were all great.
Could have provided shower gel not just hand wash. If it was possible, log burners would be great in the winter.

Staff Behaviour
Our check-in time was 4:00 pm. We had travelled for nearly three hours from London with our young children and had requested an early check-in, understanding that it was subject to availability and an additional charge.
We arrived at approximately 2:00 pm but were made to feel unwelcome. Rather than being offered any assistance or a comfortable place to wait, we were simply told to wait outside or go elsewhere until check-in time. We spent the next two hours waiting outside and returned at 4:00 pm as instructed.
Unfortunately, when we arrived back, our cottage was still not ready. After waiting a further 10–15 minutes at reception, we were finally given our room key. However, upon reaching the cottage, we found that the cleaners had only just started cleaning it.
As we had young children and several bags, we politely asked if we could leave our luggage in a corner of the cottage or in another room while the cleaning was completed. The head cleaner refused our request, behaved in a very rude and dismissive manner, and even shut the door in our faces.
This was an extremely disappointing start to our stay. Delays can happen, and we understand that, but the lack of courtesy, communication, and basic customer service from the staff made the experience particularly upsetting.
