It’s a great cosy beach house in a lovely area - a few minutes from a nice beach which is child-friendly, with mini golf and a cafe just down the road and Odense and Bogense each an easy drive away. If you like Danish flags then Otterup has a lot to offer too.

Two issues really: bed and bedding. If you’re Danish, or rented this from a Danish holiday home site which outlined standard Danish customs, then you probably won’t be surprised to find there is no bedding provided (or towels). If you aren’t Danish, and rented through an international hotel site where every other property comes with bedding as standard, then you may be quite surprised by this - the listing doesn’t tell you, the follow up emails don’t tell you, and indeed (after exhaustive searching) the only clue you might get is buried in an FAQ several pages into the third party web site they send you after booking, where it says bedding *may* not be provided. This surprise will be particularly annoying as check in is at 4, which is around when the “emergency” helpline clocks off for the day and an hour after the Otterup agency that can provide bedding shuts. After an uncomfortable first night, we got through to the helpline who said it was our fault for not knowing Danish convention, but we could pick some up the next day when the agency opened (10-3). Fortunately we chanced the agency despite it being shut, and after 5 mins of hammering on the door got someone to come out and give us bedding. You have to return it to the agency after 10 the day you check out. It’s not ideal. The bed is tiny - presumably the smallest that can legally be considered a double. There’s no getting away from it, a short person would find it generous as a single but as a couple you’re going to need to be heavy sleepers, who spoon and don’t move around when asleep - we’re fairly normal sized, and one of us just ended up on the sofa. Also, if you like reading at night use the main room or bring a torch - the only light is very dim and on one side (perhaps you’re supposed to bring your own bulb?
