Despite being very full, still found time to make me feel like an valued guest, and a super warm welcome. lovely facilities and great location for a couple of days vacation near the beach, to walk to town and to pick up your picnic from the grocery store! Would definitely stay again in summer or winter.

First - I went to this property off-season. This review only pertains to off-season travel.
Based on the Expedia add I expected a Viking themed experience. What I found was a regular motel. All of the "viking" amenities (in fact all amenities) are closed down off-season, even the front room with the viking-themed furniture and furs. I was disappointed, having driven an extra hour specifically to stay at this motel, that I didn't even manage to get a picture of the front room before it was closed off.
Now, the people running this motel are lovely, and I'm sure if I'd made a special request to take a picture they would have accommodated it, but the need to do so was disappointing. They did make a wonderful breakfast and the bed was all I could have hoped for. So this is in no way a negative review. The value is excellent for the price, and if I were in Hanko again, I would definitely stay here. But, I would not have driven out of my way.
The Expedia add may be accurate for summer travel, but it's deceptive when travelling off-season. So if you find yourself travelling across Finland off-season and are searching for a roaring fire and a mug of grog to warm up with, this is not the hotel for you. If, on the other hand, you want a comfortable, quiet place to rest in an out-of-the-way place near a closed down waterfront area, definitely stay here!
