The staff were very accommodating and friendly. They offered us another room for our second night after we realized we booked a room without a private toilet. The meals were some of the best we had in Japan with wonderfully varied menu using high quality ingredients. It is tucked away from Kiso Fukushima town so you need to take a taxi (approx Y4,000) or other transportation. It was nice to experience a quieter ryokan in the country.

The spa was highly special, unique, and magical. Our room was spectacular and the staff could not have been more kind and helpful. We feel very lucky to have found this place. The food is not just dinner and breakfast, but a culinary experience. Everything tasted amazing, we tried so many new things. Highly highly recommend.

Our experience was wonderful. We had almost no idea what to expect at Kamanuma - we just wanted to experience a traditional style Japanese Onsen and visit the beautiful Kiso valley. From the moment the chef/co-owner (brothers) picked us up at the train station, and all through the stay, the staff were very kind and helpful. Their focus is on a relaxing stay, with quiet tatami matt rooms, a peaceful tea-stocked central lobby, and separate hot/cold baths for men and women. Baths open all day to onsen guests. What really blew us away was the veritable feast they presented for both dinner (at 6) and breakfast (at 8). A dozen items were served at each meal, comprised of local fish, prepared produce, and sake, as well as soup, miso, pickles, rice, natto, seaweed salad, pork, red deer, omelette, and more (these were summertime selections).
We were the only non-Japanese there (they said they have primarily Japanese clientele, and learned and enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend!

Futon style. I paid extra for room facing the river. Waking up to river flowing sound is pretty therapeutic. The room has a toilet bowl room attached with hand washer. But for face and teeth brushing, you will need to go to common bathroom area.
Onsen is said to have medicinal properties. There's nothing much around that area. Basically u r there juz to chill and relax. I like their free flow of spring water very much.
There is a basic deck for stair viewing as well.
Do note that there is a daily free car pick up 3.30pm from kiso fukushima station and departure of 10 am.
I like they put in efforts in presenting their meals. Food is excellent, worth the extra 5500 yen paid 4 brekky & dinner. I stayed for 2 nites and they make it a point to change or vary my food menu which is greatly appreciated.
Overall service is fantastic!
